What Customers Are Saying
The reviews present a mixed assessment of the product's quality and suitability. While some found the shingles adequate for certain applications, many reported a high percentage of defective or unusable shingles per bundle, as well as inconsistent thickness and sizing. Concerns were also raised about the product's durability and longevity, especially for roofing use. On the positive side, some noted the shingles had a nice weathered look, but the general consensus is that these are lower-grade shingles requiring extra effort and may not be suitable for primary siding or roofing.

Would RecommendThese are not premium shakes. But for $20/bundle, they are a great deal! This was my first shake install and I really like the look. Backed with black felt paper abd installed with SS 1 1/4 inch narrow crown staples.

Too rough for our purpose
We ended up returning these because they were just too raw and rough cut for what we needed. They didn’t even lay flat on each other...maybe fine for out building sides and roofs, but way too rustic to put on a home.

Very good shingles
The shingles were mostly square, had the right proportions of large to small shingles and came in the right size pack for my small dog kennel shelter project. Highly recommended.

Cedar Shingles
We use these for cooking and they work great! Just soak them in Coldwater for a couple of hours and then enjoyed fish shrimp or chicken cooked on Cedar planks over your grill and at a much better price than buying cedar planks from the supermarket.

Golden Cedar Shingles
Would RecommendMatched my old roof perfectly, was able to save by not replacing the entire roof. Old roof was at least 15 years old. Easy to install and look amazing!

outside layers looked great
Would Not RecommendThis is the first product from Lowes that I have felt ripped off by the purchase...the ones on the outside of the bundle looked great but the ones on the inside were split, way out of shape and a wide array of cedar shades...lucky for me I only had a small job to do, but even at that i unfortunately had to purchase a second bundle to complete the job...I suppose that there is a price at which this lack of quality is acceptable, but $20.87 per bundle is not it...Lowes, you should be ashamed to se...

Very rough sizes and thicknesses
Would Not RecommendThe shingles look like they were pulled off of an old rustic outhouse. Very thick on bottom 1.5-2” in some cases, with inconsistent widths. If you are building something you want to look very rustic without uniformity this would be an option. Worst of the worst - basically cedar shims that look like they came out of a chipper. Will be returning.

Read before buying
Would Not RecommendI gave up on finding shingles that match my house so I decided to buy these. A while later I figured out that I should have been searching for "grooved" cedar shingles. So if you're buying shingles to patch a house built in the 40s, 50s, or 60s,that's probably what you want. As for this product, I'm giving it 3 stars because of quality issues. Be prepared to spend time squaring up each shingle. Also, many shingles were too damaged to use. The thickness of the bottom of each shingle is ar...
Wouldn't even use for a dog house.
Would Not RecommendNeede for wall application. Rustic doesn't begin to cover these. I honestly think I could have done better starting with a log and axe to attempt splitting my own. Returning asap. Separated 2 bundles and had maybe 15% usable. Look at product in store before committing to it for a project.
Cedar Shingles
When you go to buy these look through the bundle as much as you can. I have bought allot of them and found that over 25% was not usable. In a few of them about half was bad.

Used for siding on a shed - PERFECT!
Would RecommendAfter reading the mixed reviews, decided to give these a shot. They come in bundles like firewood, not packaged, so make sure you sift through the stock and find a good bundle (some were more worse for wear than others). They were not difficult to install. We ran out and got a nailer after manually hammering in 2 shingles ;) Went pretty fast with that. Sided our new 4x8 shed in just a few hours. Makes the shed look like an attractive feature in our yard! Highly recommend.
Great For Plank Grilling!
Would RecommendI own a Kamado Joe ceramic egg grill and saw several grilling recommendations for these red cedar shingles. These are labeled "UNTREATED" and thus (allegedly) contain no harmful chemical preservatives. They work wonderfully for ANY plank grilling recipe whether it be fish, shrimp, pork or steak. I break about 4" of the thin end off each shingle and soak the remaining plank in water for AT LEAST one hour before placing them on the upper Kamado grill using the DIRECT COOKING METHOD at about 400...
Repaired an old house
Would RecommendI purchased these shingles to repair an old house that was built in 1931. It had some walls that were rotted. I had to remove the old shingles and install these new shingles. These cedar shingles are much better than the product from Home Depot. The wood is heart wood and the ones from Home Depot are clear wood, which would not last as long. These are much more substantial. There are some with knots but not too many. They were perfect for my project and it turned out perfectly. The light ...
