What Customers Are Saying
The reviews present a mixed assessment of the product's quality and suitability. While some found the shingles adequate for certain applications, many reported a high percentage of defective or unusable shingles per bundle, as well as inconsistent thickness and sizing. Concerns were also raised about the product's durability and longevity, especially for roofing use. On the positive side, some noted the shingles had a nice weathered look, but the general consensus is that these are lower-grade shingles requiring extra effort and may not be suitable for primary siding or roofing.

Would Recommendjust finished a 24 ft long by 4 ft deep wood shed. put the cedar shake shingles on from Lowes. This is the 3rd shed I built and 1 tree house using these cedar shingles. They are a great value. Have had no water leaks, the waste of shingles since they are graded # 3 or 4 is less then 10%. If you want a very classic look on your cool design, then give these a serious look. They will cost more in time and money then a tin roof but the wood shingle roof really stands out. It's a work of art...
Perfect for grilling!
Would RecommendMy 5 stars is based on using them for grilling. We have used them several times to grill salmon on the green egg and they worked wonderfully! Much cheaper than buying planks in the kitchen or grilling section. It was an employee at Lowe's that directed us to this idea.
Great!
Would RecommendFor the money, terrific product. I have been working on installing on my home. With a little adjustment, and fitting, they look great! Not difficult to work with, at all. Actually, rather fun.
For the interior of a cabin, these are great.
Would RecommendI used these to add character to the interior of a mountain cabin. A little extra work compared to #1 or #2 shingles, but for the price, it's well worth it. I've a feeling you might regret using them on the exterior.
You get what you pay for
Would RecommendI was glad lowes carried cedar for my diy project. I bought more than enough and it was actually a few dollars cheaper in store. When I got all 8 bundles home I noticed most of them felt wet. I picked out any boards with possible mold, and ended up very happy with my project. Although this is definitely not high quality wood, it was perfect for what I needed.
10 bundles for 100 square or more
Would Not RecommendI've boughten ten bundles, they were wet, and maybe 10% were rotten, 10% had holes all over them from bugs, and 10% had holes in places that made me cut shakes. i was hoping that ten bundles would cover the 120 squares i have, but it looks like ill need to buy 3-5 more to finish. Not great quality, spending double on higher quality will be the way i go in the future. but if your making a shed or dog house this will work.
Does not cover what is advertised
Would Not RecommendWhile the cedar shake siding is a really cool overall look, the website on Lowes.com advertised this as covering 50 sqft per bundle. I only had 117 sqft to cover so I bought 3 bundles thinking I'd have some left over. Now, after having returned to Lowes 2 additional times to buy more, it actually took 7 bundles instead of less than 3 to cover. I followed the directions found on several websites on installing them so it's not how they were installed, it's just false advertising. If you're looking...
Cedar Shingles
Would RecommendAbout 15% od the shingles were not useable due to large knot-holes
Excellent Value
Would RecommendI purchased 10 bundles plus 2 more that were broken at half price. I used them as interior wall covering on my Mancave I have been working on. I could not have been more impressed. For my purpose they were perfect. You may not use them for your million dollar beach house, but I can't imagine them looking much worse if you did. They have a little bit of a weathered look to them, which is what I wanted. I do not think I had to discard any of them, and have a few bundles left I am going to use on s...
If sold as shim shingles they would be ok
Would Not RecommendIf sold as shim shingles they would be ok. But they are not good for siding shingles. They appear to be culls with too many open knot holes. They are not consistent to size or thickness. The thick end is too thick on most of the shingles and the thin is too thick on all of the shingles some as much as 1/4 inch thick. Many are too short. It took two bundles to cover 12 square feet.
Cedar Shake shingles
Would RecommendI found this to be well worth the money. Used for siding the cuts and widths are not square but just keep them plumb and it will work out. Use with a 30lb Felt behind each course. Using a 5 1/2 inch exposure, I use a 9" strip of felt. That puts a 4" lap on each coarse. Looks great and easy to install. A few (maybe 8-10 each bundle) are culls but I use them as fillers or just cut them shorter. Also used them on gables where the roof pitch is cut on each piece Use a Seneca Air stapler with 1 1/...
A bargain for the price!
Would RecommendAfter reading the other reviews, I was a little concerned about using these shingles. I am installing 4 sq. on a gazebo. I must say I am very pleasantly surprised. I have been a building contractor for thirty years and can honestly say I don't see much difference from these and the ones costing double or more. The actual amount per bundle that cannot be used is less than 10% and most of those can be cut into smaller widths and still used. Some of the answers and reviews on here stated that "the ...
Good but beware
Would RecommendThese will do the job they are designed to do BUT these are Grade 3 (black label) designed for out buildings and vertical sidewalls. These are NOT Grade 1 (blue label) or Grade 2 (red label) which is what is recommended for roofs. Those cost more than $50 per bundle which makes these a good value for sidewalls. Also, note that it takes 4.5 bundles to cover 100 sq ft. Plan on five as there are a lot of small pieces that you may not be able to use.
Low quality shingles
Would Not RecommendThese Western Red Cedar shingles were quite poor in quality. They looked like culls to be honest. Some of the best ones were on the outside of the bundles, so it was difficult to predict just how bad the ones in the middle were. Some of the shingles were falling apart. Others had such big flaws they were unusable. I probably threw away 40% of the shingles and had to work carefully to salvage as much as I could from the remainder.

18" x 4" Western Cedar Siding Shingle
Would RecommendThis product is usually used as a filler or starter course for better quality cedar shingles but with a little work and some cutting to square them they can be used in much the same manner as shingles costing 3 and 4 times as much.

Good if you know what you are getting
Would RecommendFor the cost this is a good deal. This is meant as underscore. I used it as sidding for a shed and just for looks. Nearly each piece needed work before use. They needed to be squared up or other work to be used. It was a lot of work but the shed looks good for the price.
