What Customers Are Saying
The hand spreader has received mixed reviews. Some found it to be an affordable and convenient option for small yards, while many were disappointed with its poor performance and durability. Key positives include even fertilizer distribution and easy handling. However, the majority of reviews highlight significant issues such as clogging, awkward mechanism, and cheap build quality. Many reported the spreader breaking or malfunctioning after limited use, and it was not effective for lighter materials. Overall, the consensus is that this is an adequate option for very small yards and light-duty use, but lacks the consistency, reliability, and durability expected for more demanding spreading needs.

Would Not RecommendIf you live in the "city", wear skinny jeans, buy your coffee at the café and have a 1/50th of an acre lawn then this is what you need. Otherwise, save your money. You can spread seed, fertilize etc.. much better by hand or by simply throwing it up in the air while singing a show tune. Thought it may work for close work around the perimeter of the house and garage but I was wrong. Will not spread more than a handful of 10-10-10. A gross waste of a small amount of money!
Don't buy it for ice melt
Would Not RecommendI bought this to use it for applying ice melt to our driveway, clogged up after 1 crank. Keeps clogging up. It says it works for ice melt, apparently not. I will play around with it and see what I can find out. Save $15.00, and just spread ice melt with a plastic cup instead.

Lesson in Frustration
Would Not RecommendEvery time I try to use this I tell myself it will be the last time - this last time I ended up throwing it on the ground and stomping on it just to make sure I won't attempt to use it again. Granules of fertilizer get stuck under the round dispenser making it hard to use and sometimes make it impossible to use. Then the gears will get stiff for no apparent reason - it is going in the trash, where it belongs.

Handle ripped up my thumb
Would Not RecommendAlthough I bought this spreader months ago, I just used it today for the first time to spread some grass seed. The plastic handle is horrible! I had a lot of clogs, but I would just crank through them (big mistake) and thought the handle was gonna break, surprised it didn't yet, but sure it will after a couple uses. i used this for about 5 minutes to get some smaller areas of my yard, then used my push spreader for the rest. A couple minutes after I put this thing down, my thumb was throbbin...

scotts hand held spreader
Would RecommendI have one and I love it works like charm does the job I purchased it for. Will be buying another for my home in Michigan.
It generally does the job for which it is designed
Would RecommendThe gate opening is too small when applying material that forms chunks. Chunks block the application.

Problem spreading light grass seed.
Would Not RecommendThis may have been an isolated defect for the particular spreader I purchased however, It worked fine in the store and when I brought it home. As soon as I put some grass seed in it to spread it would jam up and not turn. I removed the seed and cleaned under the spinning wheel thinking this would solve the problem but it did not. Needless to say I returned this item and will make due without it.

Don't waste your money!
Would Not RecommendI bought the 1st one at Walmart. The handle was so hard to turn that it was unusable. I thought it was just a bad one. I bought another one at Lowes and it is the same. It cranks fine when it's empty, but put anything in it and it's practically impossible to crank.

Don't Waste your Money!
Purchased this spreader thinking it was a good value for the price and would handle my needs for a small size yard... well I got what I paid for... PIECE OF JUNK. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. I don't know how this thing could handle anything bigger than a grain of sand. Total waste of money.

Flimsy design
Would Not RecommendFrom the very first use it proved very unstable. The handle becomes difficult to turn due to granuals getting wedged into areas that cause dragging.

Horrible. Should have just threw it with my hands.
Would Not RecommendAfter a few minutes the handle got extremely hard to turn. Ended up shaking it like a cup to get seeds out. This was a waste of money.

Works great if there's nothing in it
Would Not RecommendI bought one of these since it was the only model that Lowes carried. When I put seed in it the arm wouldn't turn. Took all the seed out and it turned fine. I returned it thinking that there was something wrong with this one. The second one does the exact same thing. I needed to get my seed spread so I just kept going. Eventually the arm just broke off. This thing is a piece of junk.

Waste of money.
Would Not RecommendCheap ,poor design, poorly made. Handle fell off on the first turn. It actually jammed when I didn't have anything in it. This is the second one of these I have tried to use and the both did the same thing. Returned it the next day. I don't recommend this product to anyone.

Did not work with 10-10-10 fertilizer.
Would Not RecommendI bought this to broadcast fertilizer around some trees. The crank is too difficult to turn and when I forced it, the handle that you hold to turn it came out of its socket. I returned it to Lowes for a refund and did my fertilizer by hand. Maybe it would work with lighter stuff like seed but will not work with 10-10-10 fertilizer.
