Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Turf Builder Broadcast Spreader 5-lb Capacity Compatible with Ice Melt, Salt, Fertilizer, Seed

Poor design since the year 2000

I have had consistent fail of these after a very short life. 50 pounds of product seems to be about the useful life. A call to Scotts informed me that it is the same design since 2000. The Scotts website shows many negative reviews, yet they do nothing. No more Scotts products of any kind for me, their negative attitude towards the customer should not be rewarded.

Hand spreader

I was looking for an inexpensive spreader and this one filled the bill. Worked great and made short order of spreading grass seed.

Piece of junk

This was a total waste of money seeds would not spread when you hand crank it.save your money and use your hand works much better

Scotts Turf Builder 5-lb broadcast spreader

Easily and quickly spreads fertilizer on lawn in seconds. Handle acts as arm rest while spreading material. I love that it is light weight with an adjustable device spreading device from 1-10. Highly recommend this product. Also appreciate the extraordinary service from employees at Lowe's.

5lb spreader

Works as advertised. Only good for small spreading, it empties quickly but the purpose is small scale usage.

It kinda works

Worked okay for two years. Used it for grass seed and fertilizer. Doesn't seem to spread very evenly. Jams very easily, very uncomfortable on the hands, and you can't switch hands while using it. You have to hold it with your left and crank with your right. Handle and crankshaft broke after two years of light use.

Useless

It's not worth the headache I manage to be able to get one or two uses before the gears kept on locking up till that point the handle came off

Works for about 10 minutes

It jammed from the first minute and by 10 minutes, it was not usable. Right to the garbage it went.

JUNK JUNK JUNK

Product is designed horribly. Crank handle is way to small for a man will good size hands. The feed constantly gets clogged. DO NOT buy this product. Waste of $$$

Scotts Turf Builder 5-lb Broadcast Spreader

This is a \terrible device. I have used it 4 times and now the crank handle will hardly turn; it funny I only used Scotts turf builder and grass seed in it. I would look at another spreader before buying this one.

Broadcast Spreader

The handle is ergonomically well designed. Easy to hold when full. Easy to adjust. I've spread grass seed, fertilizer, week and feed and it throws it a descent distance away. Great and less expensive alternative to a push broadcast spreader

Inexpensive & Effective For Home Use

This fertilizer spreader is intended for Home Use around small properties, its not made for a golf course or a farm (LOL). Its very simple to use without jamming (a complaint). Turn the crank handle at a medium speed before dropping fertilizer into the rotating blade. This resolves the jamming problem. In my experience, I set the application on 3 to avoid clogging or putting a hard load on the gears (another complaint of stripping). Once again, its not an industrial tool and should not be abus...

Material is to weak

I purchase this product to use with a fertilizer and the well that spread the product get stock must of time and the spin handle is really weak.

Might make a good beach toy, but that's it.

Absolutely worthless; even on the widest setting will not broadcast one seed. After trying to adjust it and tinker with it, I tossed it aside and ended up using the Johnny Appleseed method. The concept is good, but the result is a failure.

Good product

Pretty cool and easy to use. Probably better for a small yard due to the fact that you must crank it by hand. Overall I am glad I got it and would highly recommend it

wheel

Handy tool, but the wheel gets hard to rotate and seed get dumped, not sure if you can oil it or how to even to that.

Junk, cheap, spend your $15 on something else

I've had 2 of these, thinking the first one had a malfunction by jamming. Nope. Second one did the same thing. After I cleared the jam, everything (gears) locked up. I've cleaned the unit out in between applications, washed it out, let it dry, before adding items to it. Same results.
