Crank ceased to work prior to spreading one bag of seed.

Broke in first use. Useless Junk!

I had an older model of this many years ago that worked great. Due to that past experience I stupidly ignored the negative feedback figuring I'd not get a bad unit. Well, I purchased a bad unit. The gears inside stripped and the spreader became useless within 5 minutes of starting to spread grass seed. Complete junk. Don't make the mistake I made. Stay away from this useless piece of plastic. Brought it home today and it's going back tomorrow.

Bad Product

I purchased this item and had to return it the same night. After spinning for three minutes it would get jammed and I had play around with to work again. Happened about six times until I felt enough was enough and returned it.

hurt my hands

Although this product did what it claimed it would do, i found that it was painful to my hands and wrist after only a few minutes.

Expected Better

Spreader jammed frequently making it difficult to turn the crank. Never did figure out how or why it was jamming. Spreading seed evenly was impossible. My guess: spreader is just light weight to do the job.

Not Worth It

I purchased this to help spread grass seed in a small area. It clogged quickly. I had to just spread the seed by pulling it out and tossing it by hand. Not worth the hassle

i liked it but the handle doesnt hold up

Used it for about 10 min and the handle broke while spreading fertilizer . I really liked this product but was disappointed when it broke..

Just what I needed

I have a small front lawn and this covers it well instead of using a pull behind seeder on a lawn tractor.

Lowe's has always been a great place for me to shop. I just think Scott's or whoever made it dropped the ball. Like with every big spreading machine there's a dial to choose how big you want the gap. I almost didn't buy it. Then I thought, maybe I can do something with some Painters Tape. I didn't see any other options so I got it simply because I'm Paralyzed and I have Grass Seed I need to spread. Great for the price. Works well for grass seed. Would be nice if there were graduated settings.

Hand Held Broadcast Spreader

I purchase the spreader based on Scotts brand name and reputation. I was surprised. The spread broadcast mechanism jams easily making the handle difficult to turn. I tried grass seed, fertilizer, and bug killer. In each case the spread jammed. Rotating the spreader back and forth or side to side freed the broadcast mechanism. I will definitely look for a different brand.

Too much plastic

This spreader device did not evenly distribute the seed product and kept clogging up.

flimsy product

I loaded the hopper with fertilizer bought at the same time. Upon initial use, I was surprised by crank handle flex. About half way through my first hopper, the gears that turn the spreader broke. This might work for lightweight grass seed but, not lawn fertilizer.

Gears jam up after about 3 passes

I had one of these spreaders that I bought about 10 years ago and it was great. Much more precise than the big broadcast spreaders. But that one finally stopped closing the flapper when you let go of the trigger. I had had some issues with one that I bought my mom 2 years ago, but decided to buy another one anyway thinking hers may have been a fluke. Handy Item for Small Grassy Areas

This is an ideal item to weed and feed a small grassy area. The ease of the hand held spreader is great plus the design allows for good distribution of the weed and feed turf builder over the are you want covered. The design allows you to place your arm to support the spreader and have easy access to the crank and release button. Nicely done!

Poor Performer

After using this thing a couple of times, subsequent use was impossible. You would not turn the handle. It acted as if it were jammed. Never did I get it wet or use anything I should not have. Waste of $
