No 3rd party monitoring in Canada

3rd party monitoring has been offered in the US for years but still not in Canada - and ecobee is a Canadian company! Therefore the system doesn’t meet security requirements for high value property insurers. So we had to replace the whole system with another brand. Frustrating.

Ecobee SmartSensor for doors

This is the easiest tech to install. It work great to identify doors opening or closing. These sensors are great and will advise you if you have children that have a tendency to open a door and leave the house un-noticed! I also have the Smart Camera!

Overall it’s a great camera

It works exceptionally well. The call back feature is a little choppy and can be hard to hear what is being said over it. The person detection and the motion detection are superb.

Too expensive for what you get

To use this product fully, you need the annual security subscription. I am fine with that but the hardware for what it does is expensive and I am not sure how I am going to be able to change the batteries out when I need to.

Good hardware bad software

Camera resolution is good, the images are clear, but the ecobee software takes forever to generate notifications (200Mbps Internet service) and the view live footage is extremely slow compared to Ring.

DO NOT USE THIS AS A SECURITY PRODUCT

This whole ecosystem of products lacks a fundamental on screen method of disarming itself. If your phone is unavailable, you have to use Alexa to disarm it (as long as you set it up ahead of time). If you do not use Alexa, make sure your phone or other devices are never lost, stolen, or inaccessible when you enter the house or the cops are getting called. A keypad method of disarming on a device on the wall (thermostat anyone??) is a table stakes feature that this entire ecosystem just… does...

Ecobee Window & Door Sensors

If you are going to sell the window and door sensors as part of a bundle, but require that the customer pay a subscription in order to use them, this should be very clear and obvious to the customer making the purchase. It should be stated in the product description, as well as on the packaging. By selling these as part of a package, Ecobee is trying to hook customers into a subscription that they do not know exists and are likely not interested in purchasing. It is a predatory business model...

We have this camera as well as the door sensors and they have worked so well! Highly recommended!

limited function in Canada,

I really tried to love this product. the fact that it can turn off your heating system when someone open a window is great feature but that is it. currently no professional monitoring offered in Canada, To Arm or disarm the system, you need your phone. it is great occupancy sensor, but for security, it falls flat on its face. you would need another system for proffesional security monitoring

Lacking one key feature - Automatic Alarm Trigger

Overall the sensors are great, the feature to turn off the HVAC system if a door is left open is fantastic. The only downside is the sensors are unable to automatically trigger the security alarm. Instead you are prompted to manually trigger the alarm. 5 stars if this is resolved in an update in the near future!

Great features but difficult to get a video feed

A common problem with these is the ability to get the remote video feed up on first try. The app will say the camera is ready but then you'll consistently see a "couldn't load video, tap to retry" message. You often have to tap retry a number of times to finally get it working. Very frustrating. When it works, video/audio quality is good and the ability to speak through the camera remotely is nice too.

Solid visual security system

The camera works great. The motion detection is almost too good. My iRobot will set it off as will be automated lights. But as far as people coming and going? It’s perfect.

This product I installed in my house finally.I am a Hvac technician I install many houses finally I did my self with room sensors and doors sensors I loving this product

Saved tons of money on are hvac. Love the way it shuts off the unit.

Eco SmartCamera

Using the SmartCamera (I have two) for a few weeks now. The camera has a 1080p image lens that should have a higher resolution for distance. I find this camera somewhat out of focus, blurry (I reviewed all settings) at any distance greater than about 8+ feet … I have paused further investment into another SmartCamera at this time ..

Adequate for monitoring

It does pretty much what I expected. Some occasional false motion detection alerts. Not sure what caused the alert but I saw nothing that was likely a cause. Also, I find the motion alerts are too slow in setting and clearing. I would like more immediate responses when activated or cleared. I do like the eco+ feature for controlling the furnace and air conditioner. That part of the product works great

Excellent Sensor

This is an excellent product and love it. Just waiting to see the energy savings

Disappointing Camera, Frustrating Setup Process

We took ours on a trip and had to repeatedly setup the WiFi at different locations, and it’s an extremely frustrating process, won’t buy another if only to avoid having to set this thing up anymore.

Ok but with one blaring security hole

So the security system has been working most of the time. Strangely my electric went out the other day for 5 minutes which means the system stopped working. Strangely enough a bird got into my house at the same time the electricity went off.
