What Customers Are Saying

The cordless string trimmer provides ample power for most trimming and edging tasks, with a battery that generally lasts long enough to complete an average-sized yard on a single charge. The automatic line feed system works well, though can be somewhat wasteful of string at times. The trimmer is lightweight and easy to maneuver, though taller users may find the fixed shaft length awkward. The dual-line cutting head delivers good coverage and performance. However, some users have reported issues with the durability of the trimmer, particularly the spool cover, and replacement parts can be difficult to obtain. Additionally, the trimmer may struggle with very thick or overgrown weeds and brush.

Awesome!!

Just bought this yesterday to replace a Troy built gas trimmer which I have had nothing but trouble with. Charged in exactly 60 minutes and I trimmed my lawn and around every fence post and still had plenty of battery left. It does everything very well. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the handle where the trigger is is a bit uncomfortable. I wish I would've bought this sooner.

You have been warned

Why buy something that will end up in the trash after a year? The Achilles heel of this trimmer is the two dollar cap that holds the string chord in place while operating. Not something you probably researched. Lowes does not sell it as a replacement part. Nobody could recommend a comparable either. It is an odd size. I have just depleted my third cap after one year plus operating. The issue is that it is cheap plastic and if you live on a corner or work against cement it disintegrates. And...

Definitely light duty replacement spools.

The trimmer battery life is great! The trimmer is good for medium to light duty. The thing that makes this system an issue is the trimmer line. Whoever makes the trimmer line itself makes a faulty product. The spools don't feed correctly, and the line breaks almost immediately. At 20 bucks a hit fot replacement spools, this is very frustrating. The system would be good if the replacement spools where of better quality.

Good Trimmer but needs a couple of changes

For the past 17 years have been using my gas Stihl. I have since moved from a farm to a suburban residence. The old Stihl was getting hard to start and though my wife would help if I had a electric trimmer. After research bought the Kobalt 3 months ago. I agree the balance heavy on the head end with the weight of the motor. My forearm would be strained after a few minutes. To solve this took the strap off of my Stihl and installed on the Kobalt. Works great and balances fine. The string line...

Major Design Flaw

Would Not Recommend

This is advertised as a Trimmer/Edger yet the head, nor handle, rotate for Edging. You have to invert the entire tool. That leaves you with the Battery and Power switches upside down and you need pinch both the power lock and the power switch instead of gripping it. You are not able to effectively control the tool this way. It is also a Safety Hazard. In the Manual it states, "Warning; to avoid injury, Do not squeeze the trigger while the Grass Trimmer/Edger is inverted" but that is precisely wh...

Strong motor, lets see how the body does

Would Recommend

Amazing idiots can't just say how long their trimmer runs. I got about 25 minutes off my first charge. Seems a bit under the 1.75 miles at 3mph oddity Kobalt or Lowes came up with. Theirs translates into 35 minutes. Overall though I am happy with it. I really don't think the fellows who designed the body knew how strong a motor they were going to have put in it. It killed everything short of 3 foot tall trees/weeds instantly and even then left them girdles. Also I find the length pleasing...

very disappointing

The 'auto feed' sends out more line every time you stop and start the trimmer, so you can use it like a gas trimmer, you have to hold it wide open constantly. Which means the battery will overheat very quickly. after letting it cool down, recharge, cool down from charging, and trying again... it ran sporadically and stopped. I'm over it. I thought this was a great idea but I guess I'll fight with the gas type. I previously bought a cheaper B&D rechargeable which I figured was just that-chea...

Pleasantly suprised.

Getting too old to fight the gas trimmers, so i looked at battery powered. After reading the reviews on this model i was skeptical, but gave it a try. That was over July 4th weekend. It was simple to assemble. It feels cheap compared to all the other gas units i have had, but the lighter gauge plastic reduces the overall weight. We have a 50 x 100 ft front yard with stone edging around most. The rest of our property is woods. This trimmer goes around the yard with no problems and then i star...

Impressed

Would Recommend

Seriously, I'm not the review type of guy but after using this machine I felt I needed to express my amazement. This thing works! I have been a life long gas powered weed wacker guy. I've owned Echo's and Stihl's. Where as they are both excellent power tools I cannot say how overly impressed I am with this Kobalt. Both of my gas powered trimmers eventually ran into issues. Plus the winterization every year was a pain so I decided this year to try an electric one. I went to Lowes with intent...

Works great

Would Recommend

Did a lot of research on weed eater and tested our neighbors gas one, my dad electric one and opted for the battery. Works great for what we need. I have a lot of trim and fence to get around and WEEDWACKER for about An hour and the battery still has lots of power left when I am done. Starts up easily, string releases automatically when short and I don't need my husband to start it for me like when we borrowed the gas one. Excellent purchase would recommend.

Good light duty trimmer

Would Recommend

Nice trimmer for small yard and light duty. Not good on honey suckle or other small vines due to small string size. Charging is a little slow and the battery does not snap in to holder positively. The first time I charged it it stayed on charger overnight and was not charged. The charger needs a redesign.

Good, affordable trimmer.

Would Recommend

Overall it's a good trimmer that lasts forever on a 2.0 Amp battery, but as other reviews have said, your arms get fatigued after prolonged use. I'm 6'2" so the length is good for me, but I could see it being too long/awkward for someone shorter. I agree it's not much of an edger, just a trimmer.

String feeder worthless

Would Not Recommend

Bought this 3 months ago. The feeder for the string continually feeds string causing it to be cut off when hitting the guard. It has no adjuster. I took this apart 15 times while trying to trim my yard today. Each time I trim, it completely uses the whole spool of string. I have already gone threw 6 spools of string. And I see that in 2014, people were having the same problem. I guess, Lowe's doesn't care to fix the problem. This trimmer goes back tomorrow.

Good trimmer but not for a large yard

Would Not Recommend

Our yard is almost an acre with fence on 3 sides, flower beds, and a vegetable garden. The durability of the battery was not sufficient to work for at least an hour compared with a gas powered trimmer. No complaints about the trimmer's performance when using it. However, after each charging, the battery life was no more than 35 minutes. After each use, the battery had to cool down for 30 minutes (red light on the charger) and time to recharge took more than an hour. The wait to recharge the batt...

Highly disappointed

Would Not Recommend

Purchased blower and trimmer together along with chargers one which rarely works. The trimmer is ok except when you need parts. The cap that holds the string in place wore down and Lowes sells every other brand cap except their own which makes no sense at all. Now I ordered one and it's on backorder for two weeks now. The trimmer is useless without the cap. Stick with Craftsman.
