What Customers Are Saying

The cordless string trimmer provides ample power for most trimming and edging tasks, with a battery that generally lasts long enough to complete an average-sized yard on a single charge. The automatic line feed system works well, though can be somewhat wasteful of string at times. The trimmer is lightweight and easy to maneuver, though taller users may find the fixed shaft length awkward. The dual-line cutting head delivers good coverage and performance. However, some users have reported issues with the durability of the trimmer, particularly the spool cover, and replacement parts can be difficult to obtain. Additionally, the trimmer may struggle with very thick or overgrown weeds and brush.

Light Weight but Powerful

Would Recommend

I already owned a battery-powered string trimmer. The problem was that the battery life would not last that long and then the recharge time was ridiculous. I had to do split my yard work on my house into days which was a nuisance. I purchased this new one at Lowe's which was reasonably priced. I was able to complete my entire yard work in the same day. Even if the battery died, I can charge it and within an hour, I am back in business. This trimmer was cutting through some weeds that had 1/2" th...

great eletric, cuts milk weeds, lasts over an hour

Would Recommend

i am really impressed with this electric weed eater. i used it over an hour with the battery still not dead. it cut through thick milk weeds, clumps of thick weeks. which are real thick at the bottom with each strand thick. string is very helpful. it has a battery strength inidicator on it when you push the button while in the trimmer. charger is fast, has battery indicator also. i owned a landscaping service from 93-97, I only used gas powered weedeaters. considering that is all i have ever use...

String spool issues- stay away from this one.

Would Not Recommend

This trimmer is lightweight, which is the best thing about it. The biggest disadvantage (and don't say you were not warned about it), is that the string that comes off the spool very frequently breaks, and the string on the spool gets all twisted inside its compartment. If you have all day to trim 1/2 hours worth of grass, than go ahead and get this one. If not, get something different. I only use the pre-strung Kobalt string spools, which are quite expensive at $19.99 for 3 spools. Also, ...

Too Many Con's

Background: Owner of a competitor's brand 40V Li-ion Trimmer/Edger for 3 years, motor burnt out, and warranty up. Other hardware store didn't have local stock of something similar, so I decided to buy Lowe's Kobalt 40-Volt Max 12-in Straight Cordless String Trimmer and Edger . The warranty seems excellent. 5 years warranty, can return by mail or to Lowes. Pros/Cons after one session: Pros: 1) Powerful 2) Dual String (clear weeds well) Cons: 1) Dirt flies all over the place, little r...

GREAT PURCHASE

Would Recommend

I have had this trimmer 2 years now and am still very impressed. I am a 66 year old woman and have no trouble using this trimmer. I do have 2 batteries and 2 charges (I also own the pole saw) and when I purchased this trimmer it came with 2 batteries. I am very, very pleased with EVERYTHING from Kobalt, battery operated, EXCEPT the trimmer line. See my review on that. I would recommend this product.

Works as advertised

Would Recommend

This trimmer is a hand full to say the least. It is long and fairly heavy for a cordless trimmer. A strap for this trimmer to help support it would be a Really good accessory to offer for this tool. The trimmer worked very well in the tall grass that we we tried it on. Under heavy load, the battery was depleted in about 20-25 minutes in this heavy stuff. My wife used it more then I did and she is under 5' and she liked that it had more power and longer duration of run time then any cordless ...

Will Not Auto Feed the String / Do Not Buy One

Would Not Recommend

I purchased the first one in 2014 , after a few months the power with trigger pressed full on would go on & off in addition the auto feed for the string never worked after the Kobalt factory reel ran out, the poor design of the string head makes restringing very difficult and time consuming. The factory pre wound string reel is 20 bucks for three reels. I returned the first one , second one had the same string issues, wont auto feed , you'll spend more time trying to string than running the trim...

A competent string trimmer

Would Recommend

I spent 20 years living on acreage and using professional quality (Stihl) yard care tools. Now we live in a subdivision with a 8500 ft lot. I'm loving the convenience of battery operated tools. This string trimmer is certainly competent for a small to medium size lot. I find that I can get a lot of use on a single battery charge. I use it mainly for edging, and while it certainly works for that purpose, it would be so much easier to use if it had a wheel instead of the pretty much non-functi...

Not what I expected.

Would Not Recommend

I have the 40 volt pruner which I am very happy with. So I figured I would give the string trimmer a try. Read all reviews and decided to take the chance on it. We have a fenced in yard about .75 acres and just straight edges to trim, no thick weeds. I thought this would be a good option for my wife as well. She does not like using the gas trimmer. The trimmer battery lasted about a half hour, and 15 min into trimming I found that I had to spend more time going over each swipe 2 or 3 times. Norm...

It Gets the Job Done!

Would Recommend

I bought this trimmer based upon extensive research and also reviews on a consumer publication. It was easy to assemble out of the box, except for the connection of the two shafts. The battery, though not fully charged, was ready to go in 15 minutes. The trimmer works very well with grass, tall weeds, and is a very competent edger. Having auto-feed from the two lines is very convenient. My only gripe is that it is bottom-heavy as the motor is at the base, having a minor effect on handling. ...

Frustration out of the box

Would Not Recommend

the auto line function doesn't work correctly; maybe it will be 10 in., 4 in, or 6 in. cutting radius. I couldn't get a straight line edging with this due to that. this was the first time i used it and it seemed to be low powered; meaning it wouldn't cut thicker blades of grass without considerable effort. I wouldn't recommended if you have a lush lawn.... i didn't even get to finish my front yard with this before i wanted to toss it.... taking it back...

Good, but edge/trim distance is way off

Would Recommend

On the box it states that the device will trim/edge 1.75 miles. Only in Kobalts dreams would that happen. I can walk and measure via fitbit aroung 5/8 mile before the battery is exhausted. The pole saw is the same. It states it can cut 75 4x4" limbs. I cut down one 10" tree and then cut the tree three more times, total 4x4 cuts, 24. I didn't have enough juice to cut a 3" tree limb. The 40V battery price was cut in half today. Going tomorrow to buy another one. It makes a nice wide cut around...

not a good trimmer, shaft to long for 6' and shorter. right arm is in 90 degree to keep line lower in front. guard to small, right front edge and line cutter hits ground causing jar to cutting uneven.80 volt is a better balanced machine, but I now have a 40 volt cutter and blower. May be taking both back and look at another brand.

Excellent Trimmer for Household Use.

Would Recommend

Overall, this is a great trimmer for personal (non-commercial) use. Ignore the negative reviews, this trimmer deserves a honest 4.6 out of 5 stars. Nothing is perfect, but this model is an excellent combination of power, run time, usability, comfort, warranty & value. I've owned 2 gas powered trimmers prior and was concerned that the battery powered units wouldn't be able to cut well. However, the Kobalt trimmer blasted through everything but the thickest brush. Basically, everything w/ a green ...

Great product

Would Recommend

This was worth every dime I spent. I know it's not really a brush hog but it's close. Had to cut grass and weeds in places I couldn't get to with a mower. It worked great! The battery charge lasts a long time. I'm small and it wasn't too heavy for me. Could be a little shorter because I am short but I got along okay.

Good deal for small yards

Would Recommend

I found this trim very effective for normal everyday usage in my yard. I have a small yard (1/10th acre) and it has enough battery power to do the job.

Faulty edger

I purchased this and an extra battery and when I was about 3/4 finished with my trimming it just kept shutting off. I switched batteries and still had the same problem. I don't know if it gets too hot or what but I plan on returning this edger or just exchanging. Hoping I just got a bad one but I see other reviews with the same problem... One other thing, if you have a small yard this is great for you but it uses a whole spool of line for my yard and really doesn't have the strength to edge ...

Edges like a PRO

Would Recommend

This has a lot of power. It trims and edges a lot better than my old black and decker, and I can just walk down my sidewalk and have a perfect edge with this device. I had frustration on trying to replace the string. It ran out of string quicker than I expected and I struggled to put in the new reel with it untangling and feed string into two holes. My only complaint it is a little heavy for me, I don't have man hands. I would like to see this lighter weight. I'm hoping this lithium ion batte...
