Replaced all 8 hardwired in my house two years ago. Four have failed. Intermittent chirping, that the manual says is from low battery. Checked battery, fine on electrical meter. Replaced it anyway. I have a large house w/ 4 bedrooms. I needed to replace all of the alarms in my place as the old ones were out of date. One of the new ones would not function properly so I called customer service. The gentleman on the other end took all of the info and sent me a new unit , which I received in less than a week and works just fine. I'm very satisfied w/ these items.

Replaced Firex detectors:
The installation was easier than I thought. I first found the breaker that fed the alarms. It was easy to remove the mounting brackets and install the new ones. The wiring was totally logical and completed with wire nuts. At first I was unhappy that you did not make a form/fit/function of the original Firex but I changed all 5 in about 2 hours. They are installed where the original were. Look good!! What more is there to say.

It's worth it
Even if your city doesn't mandate you have hardwired and interconnected detectors (like mine does) these are great products. I had to get these on short notice and the kidde shop got them to me on time and packaged well! Easy access to backup battery had me sold!
