I returned to cycling after a 15 year hiatus where my Cateye cycle computer was state of the art. This 1040 is smarter than I am! I am so overjoyed that I can plan, map and get real needed information in an instant. I can’t tell you how quickly I became completely reliant on the brain of my newly recovered hobby. The ease of use and simple interface are easy to learn and easy to use. It interacts seamlessly with my phone and has a great feature where it will notify my wife if I fall or have an a...

Garmin 1040
As of late when I load routes from strava the Garmin doesn’t give me turn by turn directions, I am consistently missing turns on my route and sometimes it will show I am off course when I am not, then eventually correct itself.I changed the setting a million times and still get the same results. This is a significant inconvenience because I relocated and I am still learning the area. This last update has made my experience awful. Before the update my turn by turn navigation work fine.

Garmin Edge 1040 is Pretty okay
I have been using my 1040 for about a month. It helps to watch a few YT videos to get it set up and working. Garmin manual is weak at best. It has good features and pairs with cadence, speed, power, and heart rate sensors easily.

Great tool for training
Adds just enough data to help determine progress or fatigue during training. I like the large screen for my eyes as well.

Great screen, really like the larger numbers
I really like the Garmin navigation capabilities as well as the Climb Pro function. The screen setup is very flexible and easy to use. The characters on the screen are slightly larger than my prior computers which is very nice. I can easily read the important parameters while doing workouts.

Can't stand up to rain or sweat
I've had this for over a year now. It generally performs well in dry conditions but fails miserably in rain or heavy sweat sessions. The screen is too sensitive to moisture drops that cause it on screen fields to randomly flip out. On a recent ride in a light rain, my screen completely changed all 8 fields on the display to random fields. The display was completely useless to me. I've had the same thing happen on sweaty trainer sessions.

My Personal Coach
The Stamina feature on the 1040 takes cycling to another level. It’s takes away the guess work of what’s left in the tank. You’re able to see your numbers to make a determination about your fitness level during your activity. As the saying goes… “the numbers don’t lie”.

Great battery life
I bought this to replace my Garmin Edge1030 when the battery started to swell. I haven't had it that long but so far I like it. The battery life is amazing and I like the screen clarity. I did have it decide to auto reset about 3 weeks ago for no reason and I lost all my sensor connections and screens I had set up for my various ride types. Not sure why that happened. I won't take 9ff any stars...unless it happens again.

Handles the new stuff
I moved up from a 1030 to the 1040 to use the varia radar on the garmin. It is great!

Pretty Good, But...
The elevation profile feature is nice, but it more often than not does not line up with the actual grades you are on. It is skewed a bit, sometimes by quite a bit. Hopefully that is something that can be fixed in future SW upgrades.

Works great!
I’ve only used mine a few times. Like the features.

Awesome computer for my cx bike! Easy to use, big screen, lots of fun features I'm still learning

Great computer!
I bought this as a replacement for my 1030 which broke a mounting tab. Though I liked my 1030, I love the 1040! It definitely looks more robust as the mounting tabs a metal and not plastic, the added features are great, and the battery life is insane. Highly recommended!

Once set up so easy to use.
There’s a learning curve, but once I figured out how to set up the data screens I wanted for each bike I ride it was great!!

Great unit
I had a garmin computer previously but decided to try a different brand. I wasn’t happy so switch back and upgraded to the 1040 computer. Great unit with plenty of data fields and excellent screen layout and visibility

Edge 1040 Charging
All features worked fine after setting up per instructions. Problems started after the first battery charge. Activity screens disappeared, required stetting up again. Features were turned off. Tracking ceased to function. Subsequent charging resulted in similar lose of previous settings. It has improved somewhat in retaining settings between charging, but some features have not returned.

Nice, always Garmin
A nice exchange from the 1030 to the 1040 but there are few features that aren’t there in this one specially for different bikes and few others but in general I’m happy with it

The Edge 1040 just has everything you want and is big enough it's easy to use. Has all the normal Garmin quirks of the Garmin connect app but once you're used to it it's great. If you can justify the cost it's hard to make an argument for anything else (sub 1050)
