Love the larger font. Ease of set up. Favorite display is the Climb Pro view. Highly recommend the Garmin 1040.

Packed with features!
I originally was debating between the Explore 2 and 1040. I decided I liked the option to charge on the go as well as better screen resolution. I’m happy with my choice and excited to dig deeper into the training features it offers!

Perfect training tool
Worked great with Garmin Coach training plan. Have been training for a century ride and this made intervals much easier as it warns you of chances in intensity. Easier to focus on training when not having to watch a clock.

All you need!
I bought my Garmin 1040 Edge online after consulting with many riders and a few bike shops. This would be my first bike computer and I decided to go big! And boy am I glad. It has all the features I wanted and more.

A great product
I upgraded from the 1030 to the 1040 and the differences were amazing!! Like any new products, it took a few rides to familiarize myself with the new layouts. The home screen is very nice with the "at a glance" items. My preference would be to not load all the data screens that you can unselect.

Garmin 1040
Works good, good battery life. I like that the computer pauses when you stop. What I don’t like is temperature reading is useless, it is 7 to 9 degrees off, I had a garmin 1000, and that unit was more accurate.

I love it
I bought this to replace my Garmin 540, only because I needed a bigger screen. So far I love it! Big display is easy to read and it easy to set up and use. Has all the features of the 540 plus many more that I never thought I'd use. It tracks every hill climb, also warns you that the climb is coming up. Warns you that paved road is turning to gravel/dirt. I use it for an indoor trainer, outdoor on my Tri-bike and on a gravel bike. Works great on every application.

Great features and TOUCH SCREEN !
I love my new Garmin 1040. I see it well in sun and shade, looks good on my bike and my stats are improving. I have downloaded maps,so easy to follow with turn-by-turn directions, PLUS the screen is nice and big. No more squinting.

Love the Data
I’m really enjoying my new Edge 1040. It’s nice to see information as I ride, and I love the extra data!

Garmin Edge 1040
Bought this unit to replace Edge 840 Solar I gave to a friend. Wanted to have larger screen for my older eyes. It’s working very well.

Fantastic battery
The main reason I upgraded from an 820 to 1040 was the battery. 820 did everything I needed to do but the battery was horrible. Six hour ride and I was almost done.! Love the 1040 !!! didn’t think the biggest screen would make a difference but sure as heck does !

High end bike gps and so much more
Love it- use it for mtb trail riding, and skiing/ boarding, road biking, major exploratory dirt biking! Gets me efficiently home when I otherwise would rely on natural direction indicators.

Very Disappointed
Purchased a 1040 after my 1030 plus didn't survive a torrential rain storm. It has a nicer user interface than the 1030 but the software is buggy even the most recent beta version. Grade worked well on the 1030 despite some lag but doesn't work at all on the 1040. As many others have stated even on flat ground it can go from -3% to +3 % in just 50 yards or less. Climbpro doesn't reflect the proper beginning or ending of many climbs even on popular trails. Temperature is still not accurate b...

Maps suck
You need to provide clear instructions on how to get maps on the device. Using my old device for navigation.

Complaints
Great but a few complaints. The banner that tells me that the sensor is connected/disconnected every 5 seconds sometimes, blocks the top line in my activity screen so i cant see what i want to see. The 1030 gave these inane warnings too but it was a small line above that did not obscure the info in the activity screen. The timer was changed from 00:00:00 format to 0:00 so after years of looking at the previous format now i have a harder time reading the screen and easily seeing the timer in...

Just what I needed!
I am a long time Garmin user going back to the Edge 500. My old 520 started acting up (giving false elevation gain readings) Figured it was time to Upgrade. Bought the 840 non solar on sale. Screen was just to small for my aging eyes. Returned it in the 30 day window and took a chance on the 1040 non solar. This is exactly what I was looking for . The larger screen is easy to see at a glance touchscreen is GREAT! Also the larger screen combined with the touchscreen is perfect for navigation. The...

Very Disappointed
Previously, I owned a 1030 plus that didn't survive a torrential rain storm. The 1030 plus firmware was very solid. The 1040 is very buggy whether you are using the current firmware or the public beta. Climbpro is very inaccurate and starts sometimes even on flat ground. The grade feature no longer works accurately. I have noticed in the forums many others are having the same issues. The interface is easier to navigate than the 1030 plus. The temperature has never been accurate but I view...
