I cannot read anything on my phone in the Connect App to make updates any changes because it’s in a foreign language. When I called they said it is a known problem and they will send an update at some point with no time line available. Very disappointing. I can make changes on the Edge but some things you need to do in the Connect App

The best at your finger tips. If that means you're out crushing Strava segments or wanting to cycle through music, the Edge 1040 is a great bike computer. The easy to follow navigation allows me to be confident exploring new areas. This item is great for beginner cyclists and more advanced riders alike. The battery life is great, and pairs awesome with Garmin's power meter pedals and rear Varia radar.

Incredibly buggy software
Coming from the Garmin wrist watches the instability and unpredictability of the 1040's software has been aggravating. It has barely gotten better over successive software releases. Check out the user forums for examples from other users. The most recent issue I personally had was that updates to maps with the device only pretty much never succeed because the device turns off before the 10+ hour download completes. And the Garmin Express Mac app always aborted with an "unknown error" until I fac...

Better than any of my other Garmins. This model helps me keep track of my rides and provides me with all the necessary routing info.

more basic features needed to make it functional
I bought this a few weeks ago to go along with the Varia RCT715 that I bought at the same time. The unit works well but I really couldn't hear the sound chime when a car showed up in the radar screen and sadly the 1040 doesn't have volume control like the 1050 so I'm a very safety conscious rider and right now I have buyers remorse because the 1040 doesn't have this feature which makes the Varia RCT715 not as functional as I was hoping. So buyers beware!!!!

What an amazing bike computer!
I upgraded to the 1040 from my *old* 705....yes, you read that right 705.... What a great device. Garmin has always delivered and exceeded my expectations, but I have to say that with the 1040 I'm blown away. The ease of use, feature menu, functionality and intuitive nature make the 1040 a great choice for me. Looking forward to getting many years of service from the new 1040.

Garmin 1040 in the dark
Only way to see the absurdly dim display is to ride in the dark.

GARMIN IS THE BEST
This is just such a great computer. Does it all. Loaded GPS maps for a European adventure and it works perfectly. ALL THE INFO YOU WOULD EVER NEED! BUY IT!

Works Great and easy to use
Have had this about a month and find it is easy to use. I was having trouble reading my other Garmin and this one works great for me. The maps are easy to follow and see. Everything else that i have tried also works very well. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is thinking about a bike computer.

Nice upgrade from my old Edge
Easy to use with the touch screen. Lots of useful features. I used it on a recent gravel ride to navigate the course and it worked flawlessly.

Great got Better
I purchased a new Garmin 1040 when my 1030 finally fell apart after many years of rough roads and use! The new device has many new features which are more user friendly and useful! The navigation has a feature to return to start location via reverse route or most direct! Love it!! The screen display is in color and very easy to read, day or night! The battery life is as good or better than my 1030, which gives me all day riding capacity without worry for power.

Excellent device
The larger screen accommodates great viewing even with 10 data fields. The flexibility to change and modify on the fly is great.

Smarter than me!
I bought the Garmin 1040 computer to work with my power meter pedals. It is the first and only computer of this type that I’ve purchased so my ability to compare it to others is not possible. However, being a 70 year old cyclist who’s ridden and done some racing over my 50 years on a bike I can say that it has exceeded my expectations. I’m somewhat computer literate, not an expert by any means but, the unit is easy to use, tracks all the training or race data that my coach and I will ever nee...

Overall nice but had some issues
I love the big display and features but have had two issues. I keep getting prompted for an update of the software but each time the update fails saying it could not download the files. this happens every time and I have yet to be able to apply the update. This is on my home network. I also had to do a factory reset after the unit quit showing the grade on climbs. Battery life is amazing. I would not pay extra for the solar unit unless you are going to be away from a charger for a long time. Wor...

Great product
Replacing my 1030 and find the screen much easier to read and they spent a lot of time structuring the information on the screens over the prior version. Quite happy with the purchase.

Poor ride loading
I had the 1030 and was very pleased. Dropped and broke ☹️. The 1040 is impossible to load a new ride. I’ve tried the Garmin sites, you tube, ect…
