Ratings & Reviews for Sta-Green Precision Broadcast Spreader 32-lb Capacity Compatible with Fertilizer, Seed

Sold used as new

Received this item and it was used. Completely dirty. Old fertilizer was caked on the inside. Dirt inside the wheel treads. Handle was broken and missing the screw that attaches it. Shame on you lowes for selling this. Now I have to bring it back and order a new one

First Timer

I never used one of these before but when removing some old sod saw some grub worms underneath, and they eat the roots. I purchased this thing to spread the insecticide over the lawn. These things are relatively expensive for a piece of plastic, wheels and trigger mechanism but hiring someone is triple so fine. Anyhow, it works as advertise, spread it out everywhere, simple dial, easy to hold trigger and walk, can adjust handle. We shall see long term, but I liked it.

Metal frame was rusty and there was debris inside.

I'm not sure if Lowe's left this item outside or if this was used previously, but the moment I loaded this up with fertilizer (I did one bag of Scotts), the stand leg snapped. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the frame had been heavily rusted out, causing it to snap. Furthermore, there was already some sort of dirt and residue built up inside the spreader. I'm not sure if this was previously used, but it was sold to me as "New", so I was pretty disappointed to see that it was definitely u...

Easy to use, but drop calibration is off

The spreader is easy to handle and spreads the fertilizer just fine. What is off is the rate at which is dumps fertilizer to the distribution disc. This is not close to being calibrated. The opening for the fertilizer to drop through opens up too much for the set number. If the fertilizer calls for a 5 drop rate, I'd have to set it about 3 1/2 or 3 3/4 to get the rate it should per acre. Other than that, it works just like it should.

Patches

I guess I was walking too fast. It did not spread evenly over the whole yard. Or I did not have the dial set correctly for the amount of coverage I was applying fertilizer to. But where I applied the correct amount of 13-13-13 fertilizer, there is beautiful green grass!

Watch out for repackaged items!

This product arrived not in the original box but was re-packaged. The item had obviously been on display because it was very filthy and even had bird crap on it!!

Product durability

When full of fertilizer it is not as sturdy as it should be also it were extremely dirty

Spreader Settings

After several days and on hold trying get to bottom of a spread chart….I found out this is manufacture by Scotts/miracle Grow Corp 937 644 0011. This is info she gave me ….. We do not have spreader settings available for your Sta Green Broadcast Spreader when applying Scotts products, although the Sta Green Broadcast Spreader is comparable to the Scotts Basic Broadcast spreader. I recommend that you apply a test area to determine the best setting for your spreader with this product. Empty the nu...

Low quality

Drive wheel didn’t spin well enough to broadcast seed

Make sure they are cleaned

It was very dirty all of them where couldn’t find one that was clean

Not good for big lawns-cheap internal parts

You have to squeeze the handle the entire time you are spreading. Sound easy? Try it. Also-the rotor that spins (and breaks up lumps) before it drops through the slot has split open twice. And try to find the spreader settings on the internet! Sure it works, but spend the extra $5-$15 on something better.
