Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Turf Builder Broadcast Spreader 5-lb Capacity Compatible with Ice Melt, Salt, Fertilizer, Seed

Spreader

I bought this to spread ice melt on my driveway and sidewalks. Works like a charm spreading it out evenly and with ease.

HANDLE BROKE OFF ON 2ND USE

I bought this about 3 months ago and used it one time to fertiize yard. I noticed it was not very smooth and then yesterday I used it to spread some seed and the handle broke off.

cheap and easy to use

I had some small areas to seed in my lawn. Worked great. I will give fertilizer a try and possibly ice melt, but the opening may be too small for that.

Poor Product

The "Spreader" I bought was assembled differently from the old one I discarded due to both age and the handle disintegrated. With the new one assembled as one unit rather than assembled from parts, there is no access to the gear mechanism. I was unable to spread fertilizer on my newly seeded lawn as the handle would not turn. I contacted Scotts and they are sending me a check for the purchase price and sending my extensive review on to Engineering for study. Hope it is improved.

onlu tried it one time for fire ant granules

not sure but seems ok

Really good product and well constructed

I really enjoy using this product and would definitely recommend for anyone willing to invest in a fertilizer or other lawn care product. Worth every dollar.

works as advertised

I like this spreader and am glad I bought it. But more detailed instructions on how to use the settings would have been helpful. I just wanted to spread rye grass seeds but had to guess on the proper setting. There was no guidance on direction on the spreader or on the bag of seed.

Great little device

It is a great little device, which is easy to use and not heavy at all. It is very useful and convenient for those who have a small yard. I strongly recommend it because it makes spreading grass seeds and fertilizer like a breeze.

Good hand-held spreader

Bought the spreader to sow cover crop for my vegetable garden. Took a little time to get a good feel for it, but it worked very well. Was able to adjust the flow to spread the seed well.

Plastic Handle is Cheap

The orange plastic handle broke off on the first crank.

Garbage

Garbage do not buy this. I had one previously but seems like quality has hit rock bottom. It cease up very easily so upon careful inspection what ever you load it with jams the dispersal wheel at the top. I disassembled it and lubricated the gears which initially helped but failed shortly. It will be returned.

Cheap spreader

I bought this spreader to use in a small yard. I used it 3 times and the third time it broke. The orange propeller that you twist in order for the spreader to work it broke. I ended up paying for a product I cannot use. Do not buy it, it's a waste of money.
