What Customers Are Saying

Customers overwhelmingly praise these wood stair treads for transforming outdated carpeted stairs into premium features. Most highlight the solid red oak construction, exceptional grain quality, and how beautifully the wood accepts stain and finish—many report results matching existing flooring and railings. Reviewers consistently note the treads look like custom millwork rather than DIY products. Installation is manageable with common tools and adhesives, with customers appreciating the ability to retrofit over existing stairs without full replacement. The cost savings compared to complete staircase replacement are frequently mentioned. A few report minor fragility during cutting, but the overwhelming majority consider the effort worthwhile and would recommend without hesitation.

They are lazy

Would Recommend

After sanding stain and clear coat the treads looked great. It’s not the tread I was disappointed in. It was the staff at this Lowe’s

The people at this Lowe’s are lazy.

I picked through some of what was there and a lot were water damaged. Some were bowed end to end and some side to side. My main gripe is there were 3 new unopened boxes on top the shelf and I was still given these. I brought the worse ones back and had to pick them out myself. Apparently the person that was supposed to do it was lining up a date for the weekend. So I did his job and picked out the best ones they had after I made someone get the new boxes down.

Very solid tread, should hold up well for years

Would Recommend

The wood is dense and hard, ideal for steps. It takes a few coats of stain due to the density but I am looking forward to getting these installed.

not the highest quality

some of the stair treads the stair tread came through with delaminations to the point I had to return them and try to find the others. Maybe from another store their higher-quality. Other than that easy-to-use came out beautiful

beautiful when finished

Would Recommend

For someone wishing to get rid of the ugly carpet covered stairs this is a no brainer. High quality red oak planks finished with a beautiful nose piece. This is the way to go for a rich look you will be proud to show your friends. Take your time on the installation and you won’t go wrong.

Stair Makeover

Would Recommend

These are great for redoing your steps. Hardest part of the renovation was cutting off the tread overhang on our steps after ripping carpet off. Definitely buy a stair jig to help measure and cut each tread correctly.

Perfect fit

Would Recommend

These treads fit my staircase with a minimum of trimming. Much better than the House of Forge treads I used on my first stair case. I used MinWax pre-stain, then red oak stain, first coat 1 part mineral spirits and 4 parts MinWax urethane, 2nd and 3rd coat full strength urethane and let them cure for 5 days before installation. Wife is happy and so am I.

Broke! two pieces glued together

Would Not Recommend

I bought 14 of these, installed a couple months ago, and the edge that rolls over snapped off. They are two pieces of wood glue together, and they're glued together at the beginning of the roll over, so if you have average people that have bigger feet and hit the edge, or walk anywhere near the edge over time, itll snap off and darn near break your neck.

We removed our carpeted stairs, and I used this as my top step/threshold. It worked perfectly.

We were tired of the carpet on the stairs. We have a tri- Level home with 2 sets of stairs. 6 going up to the bedrooms and 6 going down to the garden level. years ago we installed hard wood on the main level and upper level and tile in the garden level. The stairs were the final bit of carpet in the house. We researched the materials available and were set on the vinyl replacements with the wood look to closely match the hardwoods. After looking at the retro treads we decided to go with real woo...

Great replacement

Would Recommend

Placed over existing tread. Use a piece of paper to get dimensions for each step. None of your existing will be square.

Huge improvement

Would Recommend

I did this project about a year ago. Staircase to basement was carpeted and kind of gross. Every time I walked up or down the stairs I hated them. I saw these and decided to give them a makeover. It was a little more work than I anticipated (to do it right), but it was worth it in my opinion. Now I like seeing the stairs. I am impressed with these retreads for sure.
