What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise these wood stair treads for transforming outdated carpeted stairs into premium features. Most highlight the solid red oak construction, exceptional grain quality, and how beautifully the wood accepts stain and finish—many report results matching existing flooring and railings. Reviewers consistently note the treads look like custom millwork rather than DIY products. Installation is manageable with common tools and adhesives, with customers appreciating the ability to retrofit over existing stairs without full replacement. The cost savings compared to complete staircase replacement are frequently mentioned. A few report minor fragility during cutting, but the overwhelming majority consider the effort worthwhile and would recommend without hesitation.

Would RecommendTook stain beautifully and were no problem customizing to our stairs.
Stair tread is just the right thing.
Would RecommendThis tread is just the right thing to replace carpet because all your steps end up the same hight as with the carpet. Otherwise, if you use the 1" treads, your 1st and last step will be different than the rest. They took stain real well to match the hardwood floor at bottom. I used a full step at top where it meets the carpet because we liked that better than a 1/2 step as many use. Regis, near Nashvile
Best Stair Update
Would RecommendThe RetroTread replacement treads are great and a great value. The installation instructions are very detailed and concise. The manufacturer's website and installation video is also very helpful. The quality of the wood is excellent. The treads took stain and polyurethane perfectly. New risers were installed along with the treads and make a formerly carpeted stairway look first class. All this was done by a DIYer. If ever I need to update or repair stairs, I will certainly purchase this product ...

Looks great and can't beat the price
Would RecommendAfter being quoted over 1,500 by a hardwood installer to get my stairs done I used this step and a risers and got my entire staircase done for under 500 dlls, the staining was easy and simple, it installs rigth over your subfloor stair, so just ripp the old carpet out, cut to size, stain and glue or nail down and that's it!!
