What Customers Are Saying
Customers report widespread dissatisfaction with this rat trap, citing a trigger mechanism that fails to activate even when bait is consumed, allowing rats to steal food without setting it off. Many describe the trap as extremely difficult and dangerous to set, requiring 10 to 15 minutes and risking finger injuries from the heavy spring. Reviewers frequently compare it unfavorably to competitor brands, calling it unreliable and poor quality. A small number report successful catches and praise the sturdy construction, but these positive experiences are vastly outnumbered by complaints of ineffectiveness and poor design.

Would RecommendIt's a rat trap. Paint it drill a hole in it secure it to a tree and catch small game. Not a real brain buster. Hurts like crazy if you accidentally set it off on your hand.
Rats only!
Would Not RecommendThe bait tab on this trap is designed to hold only soft baits like penut butter. I bought them to trap chipmunks, and that requires an bait tab that will accept fruit pieces or seeds. This trap will not, so it is one dimensional in how you can bait it.
Horrible product
Would Not RecommendI have never wrote a review for anything but this product deserves this review. It is horrible,it does not trip. I have set 2 traps out for 3 nights and they tripped once, the rats just eat the bait,I even tied it to the trap with thread and they just removed the thread and traps never tripped. The worst part is they left a note saying dummy . This product is garbage.
poor quality - doesn't trip
Would Not Recommendthe product is inferior to cheaper brands available form Walmart and other stores. While I would agree it is sturdy, it does not fit the intended purpose. I bought it to trap chipmunks, but the trap does not trigger. The chipmunks can eat all the bait around and even on the trigger device, but it doesn't trip the spring. I had such good luck with another trap from another supplier that was similar, I didn't think to study it further before I purchased. When I did load it the first time I noticed...
Batmole
Would Not RecommendAfter a week and a half of setting it out every night, all we have is an empty can of JIF.
Useless
Would Not RecommendThe rats ate the bait but the traps never went off!
Decent trap for the money
Would RecommendI bought two of these guys and have found one works really well, releases easily. Caught 2 rats with it right away. The other doesn't want to release. Rats take the bait and it doesn't trip. Not so great. So I guess I'd say they are hit or miss.
Like feeding the rats
Would Not RecommendTook four nights of setting the trap. First three nights rat ate off the peanut butter and the trap was never even tripped!
Tomcat plastic and wood traps don't work!
Would Not RecommendTwo months and nothing. These plastic traps don't snap quickly. Caught nothing.
RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN WHEN YOU SEE THIS TRAP
Would Not RecommendI bought 4 of these and all 4 were a waste. The first night, I baited all 4 traps. The next morning I was so excited to get up to find out how many rats I had trap. To my surprise, NO RATS WERE TRAPPED. The rats had eaten the bait off of ALL 4 traps. I was so angry. So, I decided to give the traps another try. I baited the traps again the next night. I woke up again and I was excited to see how many rats the trap had caught. NO RATS WERE CAUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was SO MAD!!!! The rats...
tomcat doesn't work
Would Not RecommendFour days of trying Tomcat rat traps yielded nothing but cleaned off and unsnapped traps from day one. Replaced them with Victors - same bait, same location and successfully caught the rats (big ones). Tomcats simply do not snap closed. They are not sensitive enough. If you want to feed the rats, use Tomcat. If you want to catch the rats, use Victor. Tomcat is a complete waste of money. I've used Victor before. Bought Tomcat because I thought all rat traps were the same. I was wrong.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Would Not RecommendBought 3 traps, after 2 days, 2 of the 3 traps fell apart. one of the springs on each of the 2 traps would not stay attached to the bar and would end up resting on the wood base. Going to return all 3 traps. There are better built rat traps available with the same design and at the same cost .
These really are terrible
Would Not RecommendI've set several of these traps, some more than once, and have yet to catch a mouse. All have been licked clean of peanut butter. I used the "S" setting, which I thought meant "sensitive". Maybe it means "safe" or "snack".
Rat trap
Would RecommendI caught a Rat the first night outside the Chicken Coop.I did bend the tab down a little on the food tray so it would hold the cheese a little better. A folded half slice of American cheese pushed into the tab worked like a charm, and was still there after the deceased Rat was removed. I hope it enjoyed its last meal along with a painless dispatch.
wooden rat trap.
Would Not Recommendtrigger always jamms,. It is a 50% 50% chance of getting or just feeding the rodents. I have thrown mine away. Money wasted.
read these reviews!
Would Not Recommendyes, they are correct. it will not catch rats. I TIED the bait to the trigger. TIGHTLY! the rat was still able to take the bait without triggering the trap. many, many times. don't waste your money
Absolutely poor design
Would Not RecommendFor two weeks testing with 4 Victor traps and 3 Tomcat's for rodent control results: Victor: 12 chipmunks, 2 squirrels, 1 bird (collateral damage) Tomcat: zero Apparently insignia keeps them away. Purchased 6, but 3 go back on the shelf
Doesn't work on chipmunks
Would Not RecommendI tried using this trap to rid the yard of a few pesky chipumunks. The trap didn't have instructions. I wasn't able to figure it out on my own without contacting customer service. The first time I used peanut butter as bait. The bait was taken. The trap snapped, but nothing was caught. I tried again a second time and baited the trap with a sizeable ball of peanut butter wrapped with black oil sunflower (their favorite combination). This time the rascal took the bait and left the trap in its orig...
