Doesn't trigger

I typically don't write reviews, and I'm sorry to leave a bad one. The trap seems like its good quality, but the rats have licked the peanut butter clean off the trap without it activating. I thought I had a bad unit so I tried the second one that came in the package, and it had the same results. It's just not sensitive enough, and I ended up just feeding the rats the last few days.

Rat trap or rat feeder?

These traps do not work. I set 2 traps. One with cheese and one with peanut butter. The next morning both baits were completely gone and neither trap was sprung. Tried again the next night. Same results. Very disappointed.

poorly built

i have bought 8 of these traps in the past 2 months..only to have them fall apart after 1st couple use's...set them ,went back in the morning & trap has been sprung but no rat & no bait tray left on the trap whole metal peice totally gone staple & all .. think i'll stick to the brand iv'e always used before trying this brand..lost customer for life..worst product ever..6 out of 8 traps worthless

Some Minor Adjustments and It Worked Great

The first two times I used the trap the rat stole the peanut butter and dog food appetizer. After bending the hook holder more vertically to make the trap more sensitive, and by prying up the prong on the bait holder and wedging a flat piece of dog kibble under it I caught the rat within minutes.

Don’t even waste your time buying it!

I brought this trap today and spent over 30 mins trying to set it! The pin wouldn’t set in grove and it wouldn’t stay on top of the loop! Tried setting the 2nd trap and the same thing happened! The company made the video look so easy, but that wasn’t the case in reality! They need to make the hook on the bait easier to latch! Needless to say, I got so frustrated that I broke the baits part of the traps trying to hold it higher so that groove could match the pin! This product was a waste of tim...

Disappointed

We are so disappointed with this trap. Not only does it like to trip as soon as you set it; often while still in your hand trying to trying to sit it down, they trip on their own (it was in the same room we were in and it snapped without a trigger.)

Finger breaker!

What a ridiculous design. Not unlike others of this design, but setting this trap is difficult and dangerous. Don’t buy this c—p.

Worthless

They aren't even curved to hold the pin at all and when you bend it yourself the trap doesnt even work. Who in the world isnt doing their freaking job there

Reliable Trap

Great Trap does the job Quickly! Use an adjustable clamp for wood. Set about 2inches open to hold the u-bar in place, then set trigger bar. ease the clamp off the bar with fingers on side or back of the trap.

I use them every year and they work every time! Since I raise chickens and the food sometime spilled around the garden, hence the rats.

Rat feeder instead of trap

After buying three of the wooden traps for larger rats and every day replacing the bait I’ve thrown them away. Bait consistently gone without the trap going off. Well except while setting it. I bought another brand similar and have had very good success. The way the trip wire latches is unreliable at best. The Tomcat brand has always been a favorite of mine and I will continue to buy the glue pads and bait, however I cannot recommend the trap.

Difficult to set - CRAP

Difficult to set cheaply made easy to set off while laying on the floor crap crap crap go ahead and go get yourself a victor trap.

Does work - but needs updating

To Tomcat Co. You need to update your policy on recycling practices: 1-Packaging needs to specify if either the product and/or the packaging is made of recycled material; 2-A note on the packaging or product must specify how to recycle both; they should be recyclable (where are the icons?). In regards to performance: I have used these a lot of over the years, and caught rats. But i'll be looking for another brand if Tomcat does not update recycling information. Thank you.

Smashed it on the Curb

I literally got up and went outside and smashed it on the curb. Sure, I probably have anger management issue, but aside from that this design is completely awful. Others have said their’s weren’t sensitive enough, but mine were impossible to set, the pin didn’t grab into the slot enough. I tried for 20 minutes before I was fed up. I Like the large size, Easy to set and remove mice

it works in its first use

it works pretty nice, the first time. I bought two. one place on kitchen counter and one on kitchen floor. use a pea size peanut butter as bait. the next morning, the one on the floor has a nice catch. see attached.

Do not buy

These traps are horrible. I can’t believe Lowe’s and others sell them. I wish I had read reviews before buying them. But- it’s just a larger mouse trap- who reads the reviews for a mouse or rat trap. I hope others do. To start, they are hands down the most difficult traps I’ve ever set. They are actually dangerous. They are super sensitive when trying to set. One Star is too Much Credit

This was a terrible product. I had so much trouble setting it, and then found out that the pin didn't fit right. I had to get out the pliers and bend it a bit. This should come ready to go. I shouldn't have to do their job. Someone is slacking on their end. I did get it working. They are set, and I returned two that I didn't open. I bought two Victor traps. They even look better made. Product failure.

Your attempt to replicate the tried and true, wood & steel, spring loaded rat trap sucks. They fall apart under the force of the spring, due to weak construction. Inferior product.
