What Customers Are Saying
The Minwax refinisher is generally effective at removing old finishes from wood furniture without damaging the underlying wood. Many users found it easy to use and praised its fast-acting formula for preserving the natural patina. However, some customers were disappointed, reporting it required more effort and multiple applications compared to the previous Formby's brand. A few also noted issues with the strong chemical smell and liquid consistency causing drips and stains. Overall, the product works well for simple refinishing jobs, but may not be as effective or user-friendly as the discontinued Formby's for more complex furniture restoration projects.

Homer Formby's Refinisher
Would RecommendI have used Homer Formbys products for over 30 years and this refinisher does the job so well on an old but valuable piece of furniture. I like to stick with what works.
When used as directed, the old finish is easily removed.
Paint Remover
Would Not RecommendI attempted to use Formby’s to strip some old chairs. It did not work very well. It did not remove the paint effectively. I switched to Citristrip and was very pleased with the results. The old paint/varnish came off with just one application. No harsh chemical smells. Citristrip cleans with water.
Forbys furniture refinisher
Would RecommendThe product I purchased ( and writing review on) does not match the name of product identified by this review (miniwax liquid wood paint remover) The refinisher works ,as promised on can. It thins the finish. The degree of wiping determines the degree of topcoat removal. I find it best as a means to remove the finish (to permit refinish) without taking all the dye out of he stain originally used.
I had used another remover but found this one was more effective.definately using this again
Easy to use, Fast acting
Would RecommendUsing this to remove multiple layers of finish on a piece of redwood driftwood that is used as a table base. Lots of nooks and crannies. The Formby's does an excellent job of dissolving the old finish. Like all Formby's products, I recommend this without reservation
the best
I have been using Minwax in all it's many forms for many years. At one time or another we refinished some older furniture and redid the wood in our house in Chicago. I love these products and would tell any one to use them.

Lots of Variety
Would RecommendIve bought lots of quarts for years and now gallons as i work m way into wood refinishing. Minwax has lost of variety and in some cases exact matches for repairs on antiques and doors. Ive had robust input from the minwax pros on polyshades....but i have found they simply have not explored their own product...(polyshades is easily sprayed with acetone) Ive had show stopping results even thou the minwax pros say its not possible. Im a college trained pro and its so easy for me to toss the...

Best furniture stripper by far
Would RecommendI discovered this product years ago and it has saved a lot of sanding if applied with plain steel wool (not soapy) you'll get a smooth silky finish - no sanding needed. Has brought furniture back to life in one application. Does not strip any moisture from the wood either. The results are quick and instant. Must wear thick rubber gloves.

Amazing Wood Restorer
Would RecommendFormby's easily removes old finish, but leaves the color and patina of the wood. I recently used it to restore old woodwork in my 100 year old home.
