Ratings & Reviews for Minwax Antique Furniture Refinisher Oil-modified Wood refinisher ( 1-quart )
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
The Minwax refinisher is generally effective at removing old finishes from wood furniture without damaging the underlying wood. Many users found it easy to use and praised its fast-acting formula for preserving the natural patina. However, some customers were disappointed, reporting it required more effort and multiple applications compared to the previous Formby's brand. A few also noted issues with the strong chemical smell and liquid consistency causing drips and stains. Overall, the product works well for simple refinishing jobs, but may not be as effective or user-friendly as the discontinued Formby's for more complex furniture restoration projects.

Would RecommendFormby's makes great products for refinishing wood. Formby's Furniture Refinisher works great removing all the old varnish, shellac with ease. Just make sure you follow the directions. Use in a well ventilated area. Make sure you buy chemical resistant protective gloves made for use with this product. It will eat right through nitrile and regular rubber gloves like those used to wash dishes.
Works like I remember. I put it on with a brush first and then used the steelwool. Worked better for me. Verticle surfaces can be a challenge if you can't move piece to be refinished outside. Overall, it's a great product.
Best refinisher ever!
Would RecommendThis is ithe best refinisher ever - both for end results and ease of use. The first time I used it was on a 110 year old antique bedroom set with amazing results. There no grain lifting or damage to the wood. I was able to control the amount of patina to leave on which added so much character. The Tung Oil finish is also great. So easy...I love it!
