too noisy

It operates properly, but the operation of the dead bolt is very loud. I purchased it about two weeks ago. Waiting to see if it gets louder as time goes on.

I love these locks. They are easy to installand program. I had 5 smart code Kwikset locks on my previous home for years and opted to install the trusted brand for my new home when I moved.

Simple to use

We bought this for our elderly mother who loses her keys. We were concerned that this may be to high tech for her to use. It wasn't. Push one button and it locks, push a few others and it opens. Very easy to use and it looks good. She commented on that right away. Fairly easy to install as well.

this lock has problems

I purchased 3 of the 913 locks about 5 years ago. They worked well. So when i purchased a new home I bought 5 new ones. Of the 5 when the batteries lasted only 1 month I contacted Kwikset . They sent replacement. It too ate batteries. Then two other keypads failed. Kwikset replaced them. Meanwhile I’m without deadbolts until new ones arrived! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this lock back in Aug of 2020 for our new home. I have changed the battery every 1 1/2 months if I get that lucky. Yeah it will let you know when it’s time the lock will go crazy and will run till it’s dead or you take the batteries out. I will contact qwikset & see what they are willing to do or go buy a different brand

good replacement

I really didn’t get the one i wanted I wanted the one that had the app with the lock instead I ended up with the lock one by hand. It doesn’t have a night light so it’s hard to see at night. There was no help at the store so I had to pick it up by self and find it my self I guess that is why I ended with the wrong one.

Battery life is short

I purchased this lock for my 8 year old to get in from school. However, the battery life is short. I have to change the battery at least every two weeks. Well, batteries are expensive. I am thinking about returning and purchasing a different and better brand.

Backlight does not work

We installed 2 of these only to find that the backlight does not work on either. One of these replace a Schlage. I may end up going back to that brand.

Kwikset Smartkey Slow Lock/Unlock

Not impressed with this product. Slow response. Should have bought Schlage.

Excellent lock, easy to install

I purchased this lock to replace a similar Schlage keypad lock. The Schlage works great. The problem was that the Schlage protrudes too far in the front and was preventing my screen door from closing because it was hitting the handle on the screen door. This Kwikset lock has a much smaller profile which does not extend as far. Easy to install had it done in 15 minutes lock is a great way to lock and unlock the door without a key

Cheaply made

The lock is very cheaply made. During installation it was discovered to have a defect which caused it to be totally inoperable. My husband was able to take it apart and correct the issue so I didn’t have to make the trip or call to return it. It is very loud when locking and unlocking. I don’t think it will last very long before it breaks.

Terrible!!!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I PURCHASED THIS LOCK AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE LOCK ITSELF ITS '''THE APP''' THAT MANAGE THE LOCK SO WHATS THE POINT OF ME USING THE LOCK ESPECIALLY WHEN I ONLY USE IT FOR THE KEY PAD AKA CODES!!! Solid

I’ve been pretty happy with this purchase. It is simple to set up for someone not all that handy like myself and has worked nicely. The memory allows you up to 16 codes, which we have taken advantage of when having someone take care of our plants while on vacation. Plus, smartkey makes kwikset almost a no brainer if you’re needing to replace and rekey all your exterior locksets

Defective Out of the Box

The lock operated fine until I attached the internal motor piece. The triangular nut was upside down and the instructions say to rotate it right side up. When I mounted the inside hardware and tried the handing function it made some unsettling clicking noises and didn't unlock the deadbolt. Several internet searches and a few YouTube videos indicate that's a sign the lock is already broken and the only fix it to get a new one. For $119 I expect things to work the first time. Great door lock

I've had this door lock on the door for about a month now and so far it's working great. Although I have not had to change the batteries or reprogram it yet but again so far it's fine. The only reason I did not give it five stars was because I bought this lock plus the Kwikset Tylo entry door knob. After 9 years of having two different color knobs or locks on my front door one being Chrome and one being brass are gold I was finally going to have matching knobs with the same brand and one key. Sturdy

Purchased 3 units so far. 1st one is still on one of my doors, 2nd one was replaced (hence the 3rd one) only because I had locked myself out with no key, and the battery was dead. Had a locksmith stop by but took him about 20min to open it(passes the security aspect in my book) and unfortunately it was destroyed so the third one is installed. Lock reacts quickly, sturdy lock and bolt, and be advised, when the lock beeps for low battery...change them.

Poor lock motor

i know people are saying the bad reviews are from user error. However i how installed multiple digital locks and assure you the slide bolt was lined up perfect and it was not extending properly. Made clicking noises and would not extend and retrack. Returned after played with it for an hour or so. Got the kwikset arura and it worked like a champ. This model has major issue with motor. Sounds like im not the only one that has it this.

Short Lifespan

Loved this lock while it lasted, but the motor died after about 14 months. On the bright side, Kwikset customer service was great and is sending a replacement, but if that one doesn’t last, I’ll not buy another Kwikset.
