A few disappointments with the 17500W generator purchase

I have not started the generator yet but in getting it ready I've identified a few disappointing aspects. First and probably the biggest disappointment is the requirement to measure valve clearance at every 50 hour interval. The owners manual informs you this is pretty complicated (without describing the procedure) and suggests you have a qualified dealer do it (...did I mention the requirement for every 50 hours of operation?). Looks to a very good unit

Just unboxed the unit, Very impressed the unit came with enough parts to preform the first service, Assemble is very simple, Runs very good & quiet for the size.

This Generator meets all my expectations.

With the exception of one part missing in the shipment, the generator went together easily. The instructions were clear and well written. The missing part was sent quickly with no hassles. It runs my home with no problems.

Piece of mind

I opted to buy a portable home back up generator opposed to a built in because of the versatility. It will do the job of a built in but I have the option to use it for other things as well as loaning to someone else if I haven’t lost power in the event of a hurricane or other natural disasters. The GP 17500 is a GREAT UNIT

Decided to go with this unit instead if a whole house generator.This unit will supply the power we want plus it's portable. A lot cheaper that installing a whole house generator.

Just what I needed

Bought the 17.5 KW to run my whole house, including the well. My wife is dependent upon ventilators to help her breathe and I needed a generator big enough to run the well and AC units since we have several power outages a year due to hurricanes and storms.

We have had a lot of power outages in the past year. I had a small generator, but wouldn't handle everything, I would have to shut off things then turn on things. With the New bigger model I can run everything ! Easy to put together, easy to run ! So glad I made this purchase !!!! My small generator is a General, had great experience with it, so that is why I recommend General !!!!

From delivery to operation the instructions are very easy to follow and assembly went quickly. Generator is very easy to operate

I have already put the generator to use and it works like a champ. No bogging down even under high AMP. Very impressed, really not as noisy as I feared, and the easy on off makes operating it a breeze. Very low fuel consumption which made it even better for the overall cost. I have looked into service the generator myself and this should be just as easy. Overall best generator I have come across

Great product

Purchased for 2800 sq for single family home in south Florida. Fortunately the only time we’ve used it is to start it up every month to ensure everything is running properly. During the test start up’s everything is working properly and running all electrical necessary. Would highly recommend

took about 6 weeks to deliver but it arrived this past Friday on a wooden pallet. the parts were nicely boxed separately and within an hour the wheels and handle were installed and oil filled. Pulled the choke and it started on the second try. i haven't connected to the house but my initial impression is if it runs as well as it's put together and shipped then i will be very happy with this purchase. i love my 17500

in the north east in new hampshire we lose power a lot.i bought the generac 17500 and have used it about 7 times in the past 10 years. it ran flawlessly and the girls were very happy at home which made my life very peaceful for the week to 10 days we had it running.the only time it never started is when i neglected to keep on eye on it's battery,if it just sits around for a year or two the battery will lose it's starting power when you need it.ever so often put a charger on it so it's alive when...

It would have been great if all the parts came with this generator

Missing parts out of the box. Cannot put the unit together properly. Will try to contact the company after the weekend. Would love to be able to move this unit from where it was delivered but cannot install the wheels without the axle. I hope this isn't what the rest of my experiences are going to be like.

Great machine

This machine is definitely going to do what I want to do with it. I’d like that the 50 amp receptacle is on the front of the machine not the bottom

wasn't allowed natural gas or propane

I needed to run my entire home inn case of a Hurricane. This was the only generator gas powered to accommodate our needs. 50 amp service was more than enough, ran my entire home for almost 3 days till power was restored. I was extremely happy. I referred this model GP17500E to a friend he bought one and like me very happy thank god we didn't need it so far in 2018.

Idle control operation

When the idle control is engaged and the generator has reduced its RPMs does the unit output frequency and voltage stay constant or is it reduced. An extended description of idle mode is desired.

Gets the job done

This unit is able to be stored and rolled out when needed. I use it as home backup generator and it runs everything great. I wish it was quieter, but it’s not too bad. There is some rattling on the heat shield. But once it gets heated up it pretty much goes away.

real nice generator

I bought this generator at the suggestion of my contractor. He knows what I needed. The delivery was simple. Though you will need four men to unload if you don’t have a lift. It was delivered in good shape. It was easy to put together, though the print could be larger (need a magnifying glass). It took some figuring out. It started up super easy. Haven’t had to use it yet, but am confident it will do the job.
