Would Not RecommendBought the L40 and it didn’t find any studs whatsoever. Used it correctly and even Verified stud locations with my old finder. Returned it and got another L40. That one didn’t find a single stud either! Bought the HD55 and finally that one worked as advertised. What a waste of time on the L40.
Junk Product
Would Not RecommendSoon as I got home, installed battery and ATTEMPTED to find Studs...DOES NOT WORK!!! I scanned the whole wall in both modes and placed it near and outlet...NOTHING, Don't waste your time on this. Purchased a Craftsman Stud Sensor with Live A/C Wire Detection...Found Studs and Live A/C Wires!

Zircon stud finder
Would RecommendStud finder was “okay” but it seemed to be less than fully accurate. The device tended to be an inch or so off to the right no matter which side it approached the metal studs from. Once I used an older magnetic stud finder I learned how far off it was and don’t have as much hole filling to do.

Don’t work
Would Not RecommendI have bought several of these stud detectors. Non of which work properly. At most I will get a 1 time use out of it. Changed batteries etc. nothing works. Unfortunately every time I go to buy a new one all I can find is the ZIRCONS which are terrible detectors no matter which model I get. Not worth the money or time. I used to have a cheap b&d one that always worked great and I had for years. Too bad I lost it. At that time I did not realize the value of a stud finder that actually works. Now ...

RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB
Would RecommendI purchased the L40 because it does not have a screen. It has red leds. If you are working overhead this is much easier to see. It also projects a red arrow at the center of the stud. For my purposes, this setup works very well. I found that it is essential to let the finder calibrate a few seconds before moving toward a stud. Mine has found all the studs I was looking for. I used my house blueprints as a starting point and the finder verified exactly where the studs were located. Not the most e...
