Excellent coverage
Would RecommendWe have painted professionally for many years and Zinsser primers have always been our first choice for sealing stains. When you need a quick drying, fairly low odor ( In comparison to other brands) stain blocker/primer, Cover Stain is a great choice.
This product worked as Angie in paint suggested.

Best Primer for Dark and Unfinished wood
Would RecommendI cannot tell you how many gallons of this we have used, but there's a reason we keep going back to it. It's the best! I inherited a home with about 2000SF of dark wood paneling, and dark stained solid wood trim. It wasn't in the budget to drywall it and replace the trim, so we used this to prime it all before painting. We did a quick wipe down of all the walls and trim, and because we were doing so much and floor to ceiling, we used a sprayer. It coated well and evenly. It does have a bit of a ...
Works Great
Would RecommendThis was used on pre finished wood after it was sanded. Did a good job as base coat allowing the finish coat to flow on smooth.

Oil based paint to prevent bubbling
Would RecommendWhen we bought our new home, we knew there was wallpaper to remove. What we didn't know was that the drywall is so old it has brown paper on the facing side. At first we thought it had been installed backward. But during other projects, we saw that it's brown on both sides. We found out that the only safe way to do anything on this kind of surface is to seal it with an oil-based primer or paint. I'd heard about Zinsser when researching paints, and thought this was the perfect time to try it ou...
Does not wear well
Would Not RecommendNice color. Oil based stain that scratches easily just by having patio furniture slide across it. Stain does not penetrate deep into the wood even when the wood is bone dry (no rain for 1 week) and over 13 years old. I added two thick coats about 1 week apart and that didn't help the wood hold up to plastic part furniture.

Zinsser Primer
Would RecommendReasonably priced product. Oil based, which I like in a primer. Provides a good base for second coat. Helps to seal wood pores, making second coat go on easier. Time will tell of its durability.

Good coverage.
Would Not RecommendI used it to cover some paneling that had been varnished and it seems to scratch off pretty easily.

Best used for exterior
Would Recommend4 stars only for my recommendation to use outside with respirator or a very very well ventilated room. The VOC level is around 430g/l. The coverage is nice. Spare room covered with about 80% of a gallon for 1 coat that was needed. The fumes put us out of the home for 2/3 of the day until we painted over to snuff out the smell. The product did its job, was simply poor reading on my part for the purchace and use

good product
Would Recommendused this for a base coat for painting bathroom cabinets and they turned out well. Even using thinner it is hard to clean your brushes so I just threw them away after using them with this primer, too hard to clean well. No complaints about the coverage, it did take two coats but I expected that.

Best Primer You Will EVER Use!
Would RecommendAlways use oil based primer for optimum performance, and always us Zinsser!. Covers defects, very durable, and performs almost as well as top coat. Never use anything else, and the price is GREAT at LOWES.
