Manual is useless

Would Not Recommend

The major problem with this unit is NOT necessarily the tether float switch (but it is not very good) its the manual. It has no mention of the tether clip (on the side of the pump handle) and it does not explain how to make sure the float is unobstructed. Once I got the cord clipped to the handle so the float could lay flay/horizontal and not be obstructed the pipe output or the walls of the sump it works properly. a good kink in the tether float cord also helps if the float has to be place at a...

Sump Pump That Will Not Turn On

Would Not Recommend

I wish I had read the other reviews before buying the Utilitech 1/3HP Sump Pump. Brand new right out of the box, installed by a professional plumber, the "float" does not float and therefore will not turn on. What a piece of junk. AVOID this one!

Float Design

Would Not Recommend

I had to modify the float to get it to work. I lowered the clamp to the lower screw and put sterifoam around it so it would turn on. Working fine now. I have had no other issues with it. Just goes to show you, you get what you pay for.

float problem

Would Not Recommend

For having a dependable pump when needed is not this pump. The float is junk at best. Mine worked 8 months and doesn't work anymore. The float should be a replaceable unit, but I can't find one. I'm going to a Wayne pump and put my mind at ease during rains.

Flimsy at best

Would Not Recommend

The float switch might be the worst quality of any I have ever seen. The pump worked for just a month or two before the float switch becomes jammed. Their are design issues that must be looks at it.

Works very well when modified.

Would Recommend

I had to modify the float position to get it to turn on at a low enough water level.. What I did was to move the bracket down to one of the screws holding the top of the unit on. Then I was able to adjust the length of the tether and have the pump come on when the water got within 1 1/2 inches from the top of the well. Without moving the bracket, I could not keep the well from overflowing.

modify before install

the float bulb in this model should be shortened to the minimum length. as it is the float can get wedged against the sump well and cause it not to work. this is done by loosening the clamp holding the float cable and pulling the float closer to the clamp. leave at least one inch so that the float can move freely but not so long as to let it contact any part of the sump well. after adjusting the float and tightening the clamp coat the clamp screw with a dab of rtv caulk to keep the screw from ru...
