What Customers Are Saying
The Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn product has received mixed reviews. Some customers reported the grass grew quickly, thickly, and evenly, and found the 3-in-1 formula easy to apply. However, others complained the seed did not germinate or grow well, and felt the product was overpriced. The quality and performance appear to be inconsistent, so customers should carefully check the product details before purchasing to ensure they are getting a fresh, high-quality item. With proper preparation and care, the product can produce good results, but it may not be reliable for all users.

Very Happy!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seed was impressive. Super easy instructions and application. Great results. I used it to thicken my lawn in area where it was looking a bit thin. I uses a different product the year before and this one seem like it grew in faster. I will continue to use in the future.

This seed works really well on our lawn
I bought Scotts Southern Gold two years ago, and then again this year. In the Fall we usually have a thin lawn due to drought during the Summer. The water costs around here are really high in the Summer. I used Southern Gold to reseed, and to start a new patch of grass that was totally bare. Both the bare area and the reseeded areas are doing great. We are not in the deep South, but halfway down the East Coast. I really like this grass, it is standing up to the drought well, we had less thinnin...

Never again! This new combination Southern Gold fescue is garbage after buying a 16 lb and 32 lb. The old product I used for years and had no problems . Aerated and used Scotts top soil and still didn’t make a difference. Sad spending that kind of money and little to no results.

Fast, Thick Growth
I did a dethatching and then spread this mix over the yard. Then I spread a thin layer of topsoil over the seeds and watered daily. After a week I have growth everywhere. It looks like a fuzzy green beard!

This is grass seed plus fertilizer
Would Not RecommendI used the 2022 version of this grass seed in a 20 lb bag at $60-70 last year for over-seeding, and it was an excellent product. In 2023, Scotts has downsized the bag to 16 lbs still at $70, there is fertilizer with the seed, and the seed appears to be of lower quality. I do not recommend this product.
This is a 16-lb bag of seed plus fertilizer
Would Not RecommendI used the 20-lb bag in 2023 and it was priced at $60-70. This was very good grass seed. In 2024, Scotts has replaced this product with a 16-lb bag of a seed-fertilizer mix at $70, and the seed is not of the same quality as in 2024.
Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Mix
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Mix worked very well for us in our area. Grass never has looked better! Easy to use as well. We followed instructions and are very happy with the results. We are the envy of the neighborhood! People ask what we used and I tell them and how to do it. Sure our neighborhood will look even better now!

A carpet for a lawn
When we moved in the lawn was nothing but weeds and dead grass. We air rated the area, applied black cow and raked it all in after killing all the weeds. We applied the southern gold product and have watched the lawn grow and fill in. the color in a striking green compared to the other darker green lawns. The lawn is thick. Our neighbors say it feels like a carpet. We started in April and by June the lawn was doing fine. Only one area had some issue but is filling in nicely. Would and will use t...

No germination!
Would Not RecommendI will never buy Scott's brand grass seed again. I have done everything that the bag instructions said. No germination at all. I believe that Scott's needs to focus on fertilizer only. Big waste of $90.

Outstanding Results
After tilling my front yard, adding 14 yrds of top soil, seeding with Southern Gold, then covered in peat moss. Watered 2-3 times a day. Day 5, germination. Day 7, 1” height. Day 14, 3-4 “ height. I have a couple thin spots, I think I watered too much at one time, washing the peat moss down hill in “rows”
