Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Turf Builder Southern Gold Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns 3-lb Tall Fescue Grass Seed

Good product but not what we wanted

Took back to store because this product had fertilizer in it and we only wanted grass seed. Have purchased grass seed only several times before so were upset that this wasn’t the same products. We received it in a timely manner and had no problems returning back to the store.

Scott Seed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Fast germination of seed making lawn bare spots look fantastic. Great blend of seed. Very easy to spread. Nice green color and, according to details, shouldn't have much weed seed. looking forward to a lush yard.

Easy quick patch repair

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy quick patch repair. Just scrape the dirt, remove any old dead grass trimmings and sprinkle this fresh seed. Beautiful fresh grass wiring a few weeks. Easy and convenient. I have used this for years and it is a great tool to a beautiful yard.

Your grass will be thick and green

Great brand works great

Pick a Better Fescue Brand.

The coating on these seed just does not like coming off. Therefore- there are a lot of seed that never produce. And sadly, like other Scott’s products I’ve tried. This isn’t the heartiest grass. I used it alongside other Tall Fescue and the difference in seed viability and overall grass health is noticeably noteworthy. The amount of water these need compared to the others is vast as well. It makes a green turf but doesn’t stay the course very long as far as others.

Decent

It worked okay, but for the price I should have purchased a few pieces of sod and plugged various areas (ended up doing sod afterwards anyways). I'd probably only buy this in the future to bring small areas back to life

Always great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We usually like to seed and reseed areas that need it every year and I can always count on Scott’s to produce great grass every year. I have never had an issue with it not coming up and looking great. It takes around two weeks or less to come up and start growing and always takes off real well. I will always continue to buy this.

Brand New Lawn Southern Gold with Fertilizer

As far as I could tell, there was never a lawn on this property. I had trees removed and leveled some areas. Now one year later there is a lawn and I'm happy with the results. I'm writing this review with a lot of detail so keep reading if you're new to lawn care like myself. I did reading and research in the Scotts articles before I started, and followed all the instructions during the process. It was harder than I thought, but the Southern Gold mix and new lawn fertilizer seems to have done ex...

Defective grass seeds.

Does not grow. Last 3 bags did nothing. Took over a month to dissolve with watering as directed.

Easy product to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is easy to apply & works well. I live in middle Tennessee and just applied it in previous light rain soiled grass with temperatures in the 50-70 degrees. I would recommend this product for purchase.

Great SC results.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I live in the Upstate South Carolina area and loved the results I got from this product. Results in the bares spots was noticeable first within 10 days. Overseeded the rest of the lawn and watered it everyday. Very pleased with what we have after 4 weeks. I will use the same this fall.

A must have shed supply

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like having this fast growing seed in my shed. I have used it for a couple small projects to fix issues. Eliminating the need to have starter fertilizer is very nice. I will always shoot to have some on hand

Use straw and make sure to water

Planted only a few weeks ago. Germination rate seems to be pretty solid. Used tackifier straw on top and some rotary sprinkler heads to keep things watered.

My Dad always used Scotts products and so do I.

I liked that it's manufactured for southern climates.

Scotts Southern Gold - Formulation Change?

I have been using Scotts Southern Gold for years with good results. I used the last of a bag from 2002 and then opened a bag I just bought in 2023. The old seed was all blue like always. The new bag seems to be a different mix. It has yellow granules and purple and gray seed. Did you change the formulation? Did I get a bag of something else in a Southern Gold bag?

Great grass seed

Grass came up quickly and thick best to put it down when rain is in the forecast

Lawn repairs.

Geese destroyed my lawn after my dog passed and then the Creeping Charlie weed took over everything. Needed to do lawn repairs before it was to late. I still have other sections of lawn to finish but all in due time.
