What Customers Are Saying
The Poulan Pro 42cc 18" gas chainsaw has mixed reviews. Some users report it performs well for occasional light-duty tasks, cutting through small to medium-sized trees and branches without issue. However, many others experienced significant problems, including difficulty starting and keeping the engine running, especially when hot, and the chain frequently coming off the bar and requiring constant tightening. The build quality is also criticized, with plastic parts prone to breaking, and several users had the saw completely fail after just a few uses. Overall, this chainsaw may be suitable for light-duty tasks, but is not recommended for heavy or frequent use.

This saw has performed wonderfully for an amateur like me, I have even taken down some pretty big trees with it. That is, until it was time to change the air filter. It is washable- that's fine, until the kids run off with it while it is drying, or your wife throws it away because she doesn't know what it is. Lowe's does not sell this part in store or online! I also haven't found new fuel filters online or in store- my next quest...
Terrible chain saw
Would Not RecommendPurchsed Poulan Pro 42 for some limbing of a cottonwood tree. It would run for 20-30 minutes then quit and then it would not start unless it sat for 20-30 minutes. Net result is 20-30 minutes of operation in an hour. What really made it frustrating is that I had rented a man lift to the tune of +$200 per day. Could not afford to finish the project with this chain saw and could not return in back to Lowes fast enough. The good news is that Lowes accepted the return without any issue. It s...
Terrible product
Would Not RecommendBought it, took it home and would not start. Finally, got it started and would idle nicely. Then once I tried to run it, it just quit. It did that a couple of times, then would not start at all. Owned this saw for less than an hour. Don't waste your money.
Only lasted 13 days
Would Not RecommendI purchased this chainsaw for basic homeowner needs at my new house. On the 13th day of ownership the carburetor completely kicked the bucket. Go with Husqvarna and save yourself the mental trauma.
Horrible, buy something else
Just bought today for hurricane tree removal, this things is horrible will be returning tomorrow. A lot of plastic pieces that seem like they would break eventually. First starting it, it started full blast with chain going and all, quick hit the trigger thinking it was stuck but it wasn't (this is a safety problem!!) it eventually slowed down and tried to idle but It won't stay idling, and you need a special tool to adjust (that of coarse you have to buy separate). This thing also leaks oil ...
cheap 10 minute saw
Would Not RecommendAfter the hurricane all the saws at our 3 local Charleston Lowes were sold out except for the electrics and several pallets of these saws. I could not bring myself to buy another one. If you need a cheap 10 minute saw for a one time use then this is it . I owned this saw for the last 4 years and used it to trim a palm tree once a year. Anything more than that and you need a different saw. I moved to a new house and have been using it almost daily for the last month, it will run on a good day f...
Poulan does not support it's products
Would Not RecommendI had a poulan chainsaw that broke while under warranty. poulan doesn't even bother to answer their phone and requests that you leave a message. I contacted a dealer and was told I could bring it in but poulan may or may not pay for it. Poor customer service from poulan. Lowes on the other hand resolved the issue and was great.
Get what you pay for
Would Not RecommendShould have gone with my instincts......no way you are getting a quality saw for $169. Purchased it anyway and regret I did. Should have put the dollars toward a name brand saw. If you are looking for a good workout on your biceps this saw is for you.......you will pull the starter cord numerous times. Hard to keep it running once you get it started. Knew I was not getting commercial grade but this saw does not qualify for anything other than junk.
Chose another saw
Would Not RecommendVery difficult for saw to be operated properly when it is so hard to get chain to tighten. Not worth the trouble. Lowes however was very easy to work with on returning saw.
Fuel drips from unit and will not run....DOA
Would Not RecommendMy unit was dead on arrival. Opened the case, added bar oil and fuel and attempted to start. After several pulls it started and roared to life as if I were holding the throttle full speed(I was not touching the throttle). Engine died after running for 5 seconds. Tried to restart with no success. Let it sit for 30 mins and tried again. After multiple pulls and multiple attempts to run I was able to keep it going by holding down the throttle while pulling the cord. As I was holding the saw it bega...

Nothing but trouble
Would Not RecommendHave had nothing but trouble with the saw. Changed out the bar within the first hour. Won't start easily, doesn't run well, must restart all the time. Have spent more time trying to get it to run than actually using it. Poor quality and not set up to use out of the box

Run from this chainsaw
Would Not RecommendRun from this product, purchase another brand. Bought this a month ago and it ran great for the 6 hours I used it. It sat in the garage for a month, pulled it out and after 30 minutes of trying to get it started using the directions, it ran good for a whole 10 minutes then wouldn't start again. Threw my shoulder out trying to get it started. I am done with this product. Lowe's needs to stop selling this worthless piece of junk.
dont waste your money
Would Not Recommendive had this saw for 4 years nothing but problems since the day I bought it. don’t waste your money.
Horrible product!
Would Not RecommendI bought this in order to clear a tree that had fallen on my property. Settled on a Poulan after HD no longer seems to sell Homelite brand. I filled it with fluids, started it, and began cutting - for all of 5 minutes. It stopped running. Started it again. It ran for 20 seconds and stopped. Tried again and again and again with the same results. Let it sit for a 1/2 hour, tried again, ran for 20 seconds and stopped. Put new gas in next day and tried it. Same results. Ended up cutting the ...
Junk
Would Not RecommendPurchased and returned it in less than one week with one attempted use. Adjustments and starting sequence was correct and the saw frequently stalled out. It's worth it to spend more money on a nicer saw than deal with problems of this one.

Great saw for the price.
Would RecommendI bought this saw to fell a maple in my front yard. The first saw was a dud, ran great for about 2 tanks then had carb issues, took it back got it exchanged and went straight to a poulan service center and had it tuned. Not had an issue since, and have since fell a few more trees on my property. For those of you having issues with it bogging down and dieing when you hit the throttle take it and have the carburetor adjusted. The guy at the service center where I took mine did it for free as I di...

JUNK!
Would Not RecommendBought this saw to cut some 4x12s. Made about 2 dozen cuts. Saw was difficult to start and would not idle for more than 30 seconds. Got down to the last six cuts of a project that HAD TO BE FINISHED. Epic FAIL! Saw became increasingly hard to start, chain dulled, swapped it out, pulled the cord about ten times then it snapped. All this in less than 48 hours.

Had a large tree taken down (40 inch diameter) and the wood left behind. Used this saw to to cut it to fire wood length. It would run for about 20 minutes of hard cutting and then stall. It worked fine when it cooled down. Considering the price and the hard cutting I was quite satisfied. It isn't like the ones I use at work but it doesn't cost $500 either. It is a good saw for home clean up work.
