What Customers Are Saying
The Poulan Pro 42cc 18" gas chainsaw has mixed reviews. Some users report it performs well for occasional light-duty tasks, cutting through small to medium-sized trees and branches without issue. However, many others experienced significant problems, including difficulty starting and keeping the engine running, especially when hot, and the chain frequently coming off the bar and requiring constant tightening. The build quality is also criticized, with plastic parts prone to breaking, and several users had the saw completely fail after just a few uses. Overall, this chainsaw may be suitable for light-duty tasks, but is not recommended for heavy or frequent use.

Would Not RecommendI had to return this product twice. When buying at $150 I thought it was a good deal; however, I was wrong. It's not a good deal even if it's at that price. Here is my experience with the first Chain Saw Which I used for less than 15 minutes and returned: 1. There is no Bar & Chain Oil so be sure to get some when you buy this product 2. It took a while to start and once start you have to wait a minute or two for the saw to warm 3. Once started it it would stop constantly, even when idle 4. I re...
Great chainsaw for the money.
Would RecommendThis product is excellent. I've had this chainsaw for about two weeks and cut down up to 50 small trees and brush. Size ranged from 1" up to 12" in diameter. I am no lumberjack, but this chainsaw performed exactly as it should. The only issue I've had out of this chainsaw is the chains they sent with it. The first one dulled put within the first week, and I couldn't get it back sharp. So I put on the second chain and it is still on the chainsaw now. If you follow the instruction booklet to the...
good tool
Would RecommendThe first saw didn't work well from the get-go, and finally seized. The new saw does what it's supposed to - starts, runs, cuts wood. It starts as easily as any chainsaw I've used - just follow instructions. In between saw exchanges, I borrowed and burned up an older 16" version. This saw seems like it will do everything I ask of it, which is occasional use but can include some pretty big stuff.
My First
Would RecommendSo this is my first chainsaw purchase and I have to say, "Ooo!" The quality and functionality of this chainsaw is worth every penny that I paid for (even if it wasn't on sale). For small to medium size trees this saw ate right through them. I followed the instructions to the letter and found it easy to use. I purchased this saw to take down trees to use for firewood and it helped me save tons of time, work, effort and money in the present and near future.
Great chain saw
Would RecommendThis saw is without a doubt the most vibration free saw I have ever used. ( Very important for diabetics.) The cut is fast and aggressive. It comes with an excellent carrying and storage case. It also has a scrench (Screw driver and wrench combo and one bottle of oil for a gallon of fuel. Bar oil is NOT included so be sure to get some. This is a powerful work horse of an 18" saw. I would recommend it to anyone from a home owner to a tree service for the climber. I took down and cut up a seventy ...
took back twice
Would Not Recommendfirst time leaked oil, second time bar oil was smoking bad near chain. I bought a stihl instead
Runs good for 10 mins!
Would Not RecommendLarge saw for the price. I should have known better. Used twice once on a pine and once on a cedar tree both average size. Easy to start but right from the beginning I didn't like the sound of it. The saw cut ok but like the title suggest it started to struggle to idle and just flat out died after a few mins. The only good thing about this experience was the hassle free return at Lowes and I am know trying to figure out which saw to try next. If your looking as well this is Not your saw!
Bad Saw
Would Not RecommendNot worth bringing home and they got it where you cannot take it back. After putting fuel and oil in it it took me about 50 pulls the first time I cranked it. It is hard to start and hard to keep running. When trying to cut a SMALL tree it bogs down every time I go to cut. I called Poulan they said the carburetor needs to be adjusted. I think that should have been done at the factory. I will never buy their products again.
works great with with the 50:1 gas.
Would RecommendThe custermer service person answered all my qustion with knowledge about the poulin chan saw to help me buy the one i needed and how to make it run great with ease
peice of junk
Would Not Recommendthis is the second one wish i had spent the money for a stihl I'm sure i would have been better off at least it would run !
Poulan Pro - Good to go
Would RecommendAfter reading multiple reviews on chainsaws from many sites, I had decided to buy the "Remington" chainsaw I had found on the Lowe's webpage. However, upon arriving at my local Lowe's store, I found out they no longer stocked that product in the store, but could buy it online and have it delivered (not an option for me since I had limbs in the yard that had to be cut asap). During my research, I had also chosen the Poulan Pro 42cc, 18in. bar length, as a solid 2nd place choice, . .and there it w...
terrible
Would Not RecommendI bought this dua machines and none worked properly, the two have locking problems and not remained connected, I advise everyone NOT BUy this product
Poulan 18" Gas Chain Saw HORRIBLE
Would Not RecommendI hired a couple of folks to come in and clear some property and purchased a new 18" Poulan 18", took it home, opened it up, poured gas in it, it cranked right up but nothing would work on it. The trigger mechanism did not function. Lost a complete day and it costs me a lot of money to pay them for doing nothing all day. I work out of country and rely on family to take care of these issues and they are going to take it back to Lowe's today and get a refund, then go buy a real chainsaw somewhere ...
I hope you have plenty of time on your hands.
Would Not RecommendBought this chainsaw to clear the fence line of my 13 acre property. Was excited to use it. It is packaged nicely and looks pretty good. Comes with a carrying case, extra chain, bar chain oil, gloves, two cycle mix, and tool to open the chain cover. And thats about where my excitement ended. Saw constantly shuts off and the chain constantly pops off. Ive spent more time fixing it and restarting it than using it. The chain is very finicky and I have found that it has to be set exactly right or th...
GOOD HOMEOWNER SAW
Would RecommendIF you read the owner's manual, this saw works very well (the hard of reading may have problems)--using the proper gas with the proper mix of oil & FOLLOWING the starting instructions the saw starts easily & runs well--engine has good power, even when cutting dry red oak--have used the saw hard for 2 months with no operational problems--chain cuts well & does not require excessive sharpening (varies with what you cut)--for only $169 you get the saw WITH a good case, bottle of 2 cycle mix & a spa...
Very happy with this purchase
Would RecommendI bought this chainsaw to clean some brush around my house. It worked really well for the brush and small trees that I had. The largest log I used it on was about 12" diameter and had no issues.
Worst chainsaw brand
Would Not RecommendThe customer service rep was great. He understood the problem and cheerfully refunded my money. Poulon chain saw brand are the worst made. I've tried this brand 3 times and all 3 broke in a very short time. I used these saws noncommercially only. They over heat and then will not restart. I replaced the 42cc with a Poulon 50cc and it threw the chain and would not reassemble properly. I returned it too. I shop at Lowes a couple of times a week and am a loyal customer but they need to sell a new br...
