A real keeper

This is my 2nd Masterbuilt propane smoker dating back to 2016. What a huge improvement! After the 1st smoke with this smoker I added foam insulation tape around the main door & smoke/water door, & covered the vent 75%. This allows me to retain much more smoke in it smoker box. This little addition has made this smoker a real keeper!

Poor quality - non-existent support

I have not been able to get my smoker to stay lit after releasing the temperature control. There is no way to get a human at Masterbuilt to troubleshoot.

Cooks good if u can keep it lit

If anyone knows how to lite the smoker I’d like to know. Just bought and it lites great but when I release the gauge it goes out the gas stops flowing. I’ve done everything the manual says. Wtf is a flame sensor even needed. Just lite and stay lit About to return it for refund

18 months in and loving it!

I have had a number of smokers, both large and small over the last 20 years. MB's 40 inch ThermoTemp XL Propane Smoker is a fantastic piece of equipment. From smoking pork butts for 15 hours to smoking fish for 2-3 hours, this smoker can't be beat. It is very stingy on propane, a huge plus on long cooks. The temperature control feature on a propane unit is something I've been waiting for for years. I've had mine for 18 months, used it 30 plus times and am very happy I made the purchase.

Bought this smoker a couple of months ago. Today was only the 3rd time I’ve ever used it. It caught on fire and had to call Fire dept as it almost took my house and porch down in flames. VERY poor design with chip tray. Only thing between your meat that is dripping grease and a wide open flame is a small water pan. If this can't be fixed

So, a little less than a year ago, my wife and I buy this smoker and we fell in love with it right from the get go. Was easy to learn and it turned out some great meat (reason for 2 stars). We're in Wisconsin, so our smoke season is less than 6 months and just 15 minutes ago I open the door to stir my homemade BBQ sauce I was smoking and to check the temp on dinner and the weld on the door hinges snap. Terrible rust results in a pointless early death.

Received this as a gift in 2015. So it's almost seven years old. I doubt I've used it more than 15 times. It's lived outside, but it's always been covered. The bottom plate of the firebox has rusted terribly. I checked this web site for appropriate parts, but I don't think I'll find what I need. I don't see any replacement for the bottom plate with the cylinder... I don't even see that I can buy the whole box. Very sad... Note to Masterbuilt's engineers... there's FIRE here at thi...

Poor craftsmanship!

Got the thermo temp smoker for Christmas this last year. Didn't get to set it up and smoke until Aptil 22. Since April I have used it only 5 times. I tried to light it today. Won't light. Figured out the problem was with the regulator and hose. No big deal. Went and bought a new one. Got home and laid the smoker down to replace the regulator and hose. Since it was the only piece that was put together when I opened the box, who knew that Masterbuilt torqued the hose onto an enclosed aluminum gas...

Cooks great, but quality of materials is subpar.

I have been using my smoker for just over 1-year, about 10 times total. The cooking results are great but this unit will not last much longer. The flame disk bowl that holds wood chips and the raised ring around burner are very thin metal and have already broken. Does not appear that MB has replacement parts.

Should have done my homework here

I bought the 40inch thermotemp propane smoker. Last summer when it was new, this smoker worked great. This summer, no so good! The smoker will not heat up over 240 degrees. This should not be a problem if this company has proper customer support. First and most important to me, there is absolutely NO phone support. You will be questioned endlessly via online support about if you clean the smoker, is your hose leaking, do you have a good propane tank, is it full, etc. etc etc. I could not find ...

Pleased with my new Masterbuilt!

User friendly propane smoker! Easy build for one person with all the fasteners pre sorted. Love the temp set feature. Seasoned the smoker as per directions, then had 3 chickens seasoned and ready to smoke. Did all this and had the smoked chicken for dinner all in one day. The two door system is great for adding additional wood/water if you need too during cooking.

Worthless

Smoker has never worked. Flame will only Stat lit if temp control knob is held in. As soon as the knob is released the flame goes out. I have never been able to use the smoker

I'm Satisfied Overall

I bought the smaller one first, then the 40". While I still think the amount of meat that is advertised that can be smoked at one time is exaggerated, the 40" is a better size for people who only smokes a few pieces at a time. Its like using one of those tiny microwaves compared to a standard full sized one. They both do the same thing basically, the larger one is just easier to put food in where you want it. Don’t buy.

Ordered in January and still not working as it should. Parts missing, parts came broken, parts mis-welded and on and on. Takes FOREVER TO GET HELP. SUCKS.
