What Customers Are Saying
The reviews provide mixed feedback on the quality and suitability of the milkweed plants. Some customers reported the plants were contaminated with chemicals that were lethal to monarch butterfly caterpillars. However, other customers had success growing healthy, pesticide-free plants that attracted and supported monarchs. Customers are advised to exercise caution when purchasing milkweed and consider seeking out plants from local sources that can guarantee they are safe for monarchs.
Customer review summary generated by AI, including incentivized reviews. Not the correct milkweed for Monarchs. Can harm.
Would Not RecommendThis is not native milkweed which the Monarchs need. This is tropical milkweed and can harm them. Why don’t you carry swamp milkweed?

This milkweed plant was very healthy and a great price. It also came with a bonus monarch caterpillar! I'm very pleased with the quality of this plant.

Monarch food
Would RecommendI raised 3.000 Monarch butterflies. The food I am using for them is Milkweed from Lowe's. It doesn't have any pesticides. Plants look healthy with a lot leaves. After caterpillars eat all it grows back quickly. Blooms beautiful, giving butterflies and bees nectar. I got a lot seeds. I highly recommend it.

Monarch Caterpillar Killer
Would Not RecommendBought to feed my caterpillars and killed them all in minutes.
WARNING: Milkweed is poisoned
Would Not RecommendI've been raising monarchs for years and have never had a problem with the Milkweed sold at Lowe's in pots labeled Monrovia Nursery. This time they were out of the Monrovia Nursery-raised plants and had only the Lowe's brand. I bought five plants and placed them in my caterpillar enclosures. Within 24 hours, all of my beautiful healthy caterpillars turned black and died. These plants have been treated with pesticides/poison. Do not buy!
Never buy milkweed from big box stores.
Would Not RecommendThe plant should NEVER be purchased to feed monarchs. It is lethal. I lost 13 caterpillars and chrysalis. I have read never to feed milkweed purchased at “big box stores” and that had been proven to be sadly true.

Tainted milkweed
Apparently the milkweed had been treated with insecticide because the caterpillars became lethargic and died. The milkweed was purchased as a host plant for the monarchs. Very frustrating and disappointing.
