What Customers Are Saying
This screw extractor set has mixed performance. Some users found it effective at removing seized or stripped screws and bolts, while others reported issues with the drill bits wearing out quickly or the extractors themselves breaking. The quality and durability of the components seem to be the main concerns. However, a number of users did express satisfaction with the product, especially for lighter-duty applications.

Would RecommendI had a broken screw in my engine block so I was a little worried. But the set allowed me to extract it without issue! There are no instructions with the box so make sure to look it up online. 3-in-1 oil is also very helpful. Just FYI I thought the drill bits were reverse but they were not, and I had to use extractor that is the size above the one I used to drill.

Worked well ..
Would RecommendHonestly after you drill the pilot hole in whatever screw/bolt you want to unthread .. you will likely find yourself going up to a bigger drill bit to unthread it than you thought .. so that it grips it well and can rotate it out.

Don't work
Would Not RecommendDrills won't cut through stainless steel screw heads or screw shaft/body, had to use own drill bits. Then when using the extractors, they don't bite the pre-drilled hole when attempting to extract.

Worked perfectly
Would RecommendGranted I've only used it once for a single brake rotor screw, but it took all of 30 seconds to drill the pilot hole and then back the screw out. Saved me probably $150 to take it to a mechanic. There aren't really any instructions in the packaging, so here's the jist: 1. drill the pilot hole with the largest bit that will fit in the shaft of the screw 2: PUT THE DRILL IN REVERSE and push the tapered extractor bit into the pilot hole. It should catch and back the screw right out. I used a regula...
Garbage
Would Not RecommendBought this set to remove a snapped off screw. There were no directions in or on the package. I was pretty sure I knew how to use these, but just wanted to confirm. So I searched the Irwin site and web to double check before I used. No matter what I did the extractor bits refused to catch and back out the remaining screw. I was going to go with another extractor but this seemed like a great value and a set, but I was mistaken.

Served their purpose
Would RecommendThese saved me when disassembling a carburetor. The pilot jet was stuck and the smallest bit took it out. Here's a tip: drill your hole and tap the ez-out into the hole gently with a hammer. Then use vice grips to twist the ez-out counterclockwise. You can use a power drill, by pressing down hard and slowly torquing, but the vice grips give you better control!

Worked
Would RecommendWorked getting my stripped carburetor screws out of my motorcycle, but the bit bent slightly after only one use. It's still usable and I'm sure it will come in handy again.
Worked great
Would RecommendI had an Allen head boot stuck in my jointer and this worked great! Took less than two minutes.
Broke first time
Would Not RecommendTip broke off when I tried to use it the first time. Would not recommend
Amazing Tool
Would RecommendFIRST EXTRACTOR THAT HAS DONE WHAT IT SAYS. GREAT PRODUCT, AND SAVED ME $250 for the Mechanic to come to house to do it.
Broke on First Use
Would Not RecommendExtracting a broken screw from a shower cartridge. Not even 1 minute into use, the 5/64 bit broke right in half with little pressure. Because the project is a necessity, I tried the 7/64 bit with the same result. Luckily I had drilled far enough to try the extractor, and sure enough, the tip broke off. I decided to just break the cartridge and replace it with a new one. The only victory with this pack was that I was able to use the X5 to drill into the broken cartridge and it caught the plastic ...

Solid tooling
Would RecommendI had a screw hex head strip in a rifle scope base. Very small screw, had to get it out without damaging the threaded hole in the action. I started with the supplied bit but went with a smaller drill bit due to the small size of the screw that I needed to extract. The screw was not seized or that tight so I knew little effort would back it out. The extractor grabbed quickly and backed out the screw. Hope I don't need them but glad I bought this set.

Broke easily, do not buy this product.
Would Not RecommendI am now looking at an expensive machinist repair bill to get the broken extractor out.

Great Extractor Set
Would RecommendI misread the service manual when doing the timing chain and over torqued one of the timing cover bolts. I have never used a extractor before but I have to say I am very impressed. Removed the broken bolt and did not damage the threads in the blind hole. Keep in mind the instructions for the extractor says not to use in any power tool, I found a socket that would fit on the end and used a ratchet to use it.

Recommend with caveats
Would RecommendThe extractors themselves are ok, but the included bits are only good for one bolt before they're too dull to function. Save yourself a trip back to the store and buy a cobalt bit in the size you will need while you're there.
