I got this to solve a problem: we like to crack a window when we sleep, but the thermostat is in the same room, so the heat works harder (wasting energy) and other rooms in the same zone get way too hot. This includes the "little bee" remote sensor that can be placed in a different room, and the system can be programmed to use only the remote sensor! Checking for compatibility was simple, just go to Ecobee's website and enter the wires you see on your current thermostat and it tells you what needs to be done to get it to work. Install was simple and easy, just document the wires you have with the labels provided and then plug them into the Ecobee mount. Have had this product for a little over a month and am really glad I purchased it. I like how you can have sensors in different locations to help average your temp in your home throughout the whole home based on where you place the extra sensors. The Best Smart Thermostat on the Market

What makes this thermostat better then Nest is the remote sensor. My thermostat panel is not in an ideal location, down the hall from the master bedroom. The heat pump had to heat the rooms then flow out into the hallway before the thermostat even registered a temp change. Not anymore, with the remote sensors you can disable the main panel and have it only read from the sensors. No doubt this thermostat will pay for itself in about years time.

With the additional sensors, you can manage and automate your hvac system better than Nest. The app is so fluid that I use the data to fine tune things and have saved about $50 already in 2 months.

Easy installation and operation

Installation was painless, thanks to the app-guided process (complete with videos for each step)! The included Power Extender Kit allowed me to have independent fan control (full functionality) even though I didn't have an available "C Wire" in my setup. Integration with HomeKit was smooth and I've been enjoying the ability to adjust and monitor my HVAC system from anywhere with an Internet connection. Very pleased with my purchase!

Love my thermostat

I bought my Ecobee3 to go with a new furnace, and it's been a MAJOR upgrade to my home. I can make sure my equipment is working and keep an eye on my animals' comfort level while I'm working. It actually let me know of a problem with my furnace before I knew there was a problem. I'm a month in, but I've enjoyed being able to keep an eye on my home remotely and it's helped me to better monitor my HVAC system. I'd recommend to anyone.
