Not A WiFi Grill as Advertised

A big reason as to why I bought this grill was because of the supposed wifi capabilities. Just heard back from customer support that the wifi connection is secondary and a Bluetooth connection is required. Chargriller doesn't want people leaving their grills unattended due to the risk of it catching fire. The Char Griller Gravity Fed 980 is perfect! Plan ahead for someone to assist you with pickup and assembly. The boxed unit weighs over 240lbs. Once assembled and ready for use, this grill offers perfect heat control and better coal burn than a regular charcoal grill. The gravity box/hopper only burns coals at the bottom and still provides extreme heat...perfect!

awesome with quirks

I just used this to smoke a brisket and it was the best tasting and easiest to cook. the only reason this isn't 5 stars is because of a couple quirks. 1. it's difficult to light. I just bought some all natural fire starters which should help. 2. the temp is about 30° low. but it was consistent. I just adjusted what I set the grill too.

Fantastic grill!

I've cooked five times now and I don't have anything negative to say. This is a fantastic griller/smoker. Charcoal is lit in five minutes and takes just 10 minutes to get to 350 deg. This grill produces a great smoke ring and tender and juicy meats. The unit was missing the meat probe, but customer service responded less than 24 hours to my request, and I received my replacement in a few days. BUYER BEWARE

Grill runs constantly over by a lot talking 50 to 200. Internal temperature of grill always lower that set temperature. set for 250 internal 464. Tried independent temperature probe that I trust and it read completely different temperature 457. Customers service horrible you'll never talk to anyone just email or chat. Change probe inside grill still same issue. It have to be the main controller brain. I definitely would not recommend this grill. Concept great just don't work.

Amazingly bad

First 6 months were amazing, after that the grill started melting sensors. They are cheap and easy to replace so I never bothered with warranty. After the 1 year warranty was up the control board started acting up, reading the built in meat probes with random temps even though nothing is plugged into them. Enjoy and recommend, can't control smoke quality

I have had this smoker for a little over a year now. I bought it because sometimes I don't have the time to manage a long smoke. With this I can just fill the box, put in a few wood chunks and your good. I also use it to cook pizza and steaks. The only issue I have is that you cannot really control the quality of the smoke. You are going to get the white dirtier smoke quite often. So I would recommend not using too much wood in the smoker. Just enough to have smoke going through. If you ...

Great for cooking

the instructions are not really clear on getting your grill hot. You must have the fan door open to get it going. Also, take a long time to cool down

DO YOUR OWN INSTALLATION

If you can avoid having Lowe’s install your grill, you’ll be fine. Whoever put my grill together did not wired it correctly. Had to go to unnecessary stress just to get it working and to find out that the wiring was not even connected. Ruined my bbq party to start off and ruin my experience with this grill from the get go.

AVOID!!!!

This is the worst grill I’ve ever purchased. Continue to get ErF code saying there’s materials in the fan impeding the airflow. I’ve changed the control, changed the fan and even bought a third party mod to help the fan not get particles in the fan and it still didn’t work. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GRILL!!!
