Ratings & Reviews for BLACK+DECKER Groom N' Edge 14-in Curved Shaft String Trimmer
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this trimmer. Many praise its lightweight design, powerful cutting performance on thick weeds and grass, and easy switching between trimming and edging modes. However, a substantial portion report severe auto-feed line system failures—the mechanism frequently jams, stops working, or requires manual rewind every few minutes. Several users experienced recurring issues even after exchanging units, suggesting a design flaw. Some note the spool housing melts or loosens over time, making repairs difficult. A few mention excessive line consumption and cord management challenges. Despite these concerns, many appreciate the corded electric design for consistent power and reliability compared to gas models.

Works as designed.
Would RecommendThe only thing I would like better, would be that the battery lasts a little longer.

Great little cutter.
Would RecommendWould have given it a 5 star, but it just doesn't last long enough. Had one before, good machine, but not a long lasting.

Read manual and use right type of line
Would RecommendI like that the GH3000 trimmer changes to a lower/slower speed when I turn the head to the edging position (for safety). Wish I could select hi/low speed during operation in the regular trimming position too. I believe most line feed issues would be solved if people would use only the type of line specified in the manual. Subtracting a star due to being difficult to remove the orange cap for string replacement. Also, why can't B&D make the shaft adjustable & 4" longer for tall people??
Powerful, but string runs out in minutes of use
Would Not RecommendI bought this trimmer a long time ago, but just took it out of the box and used it for the first time 2 days ago and then again yesterday. I do not know how much string was spooled on the supplied spool, but it was gone in no time, which ended that days attempt. I had 6.5 string left over from my previous B&D trimmer, so I wound quite lot of that 6.5 round string on the trimmer and it worked well for a few minutes of heavy trimming and was then gone. These 2 first uses of the GH3000 are very di...

Good luck plugging it in
Would Not RecommendUsed the Black and Decker 7.5 amp GH3000 for the first time. Like many other reviews noted, at full extension length the tool is too short for anyone taller than 5'-9" or 5'-10". Be prepared for a sore back if you're taller than that. Now that's only the case if you can get power to the tool. Unlike the Black and Decker corded model it replaced (1 class more light weight (0.065 line) and bought 13 years ago), the recessed plug attachment on the GH3000 is too small of diameter to fit the fema...

String is garbage
Would RecommendThe trimmer itself has lots of power but the white string it comes with constantly breaks like every 10 seconds. I thought it was just dried string the trimmer came with but I had new spools and they also broke I went through 2 spools of string before I went back looked for something better. I kept the trimmer and old spool and got some yellow "Ugly twist string" https://www.lowes.com/pd/Shakespeare-200-ft-Spool-0-065-in-Spooled-Trimmer-Line/999947834 and wound it myself. It works a lot better...

Don't BUY IT
Would Not RecommendI am a 70 year old widow in need of something light weight so a couple of years ago I bought the B&D gh3000 thinking no more battery issues or hard starting gas whackers. Wrong again! This thing is constantly eating line. Too little like then too much until you respool every time. Now the housing for the spooler sheered off. Now what to do????

Balance
Would RecommendThe Black and Decker auto feed function works great. No bumping, just trimming. The motor is behind the handle so you lift on the back to put the trimmer down. The ones with the motor at the bottom, you have to push down on the back to raise the trimmer adding to the perceived weight.

Really powerful, TERRIBLE head.
Would Not RecommendThis baby was doing GREAT, until it needed more line and the head is the worst designed piece of mechanical trash I had ever used. This thing uses line like no tomorrow as well as not wanting to feed line half the time. My main issue is that the line breaks off and retracts INSIDE the head so you have to stop, remove the head and spool, re-wind it back up, feed the line through the little eye hole, re-install the head, for it to break right back off inside the head again 20 seconds later when it...
Corded trimmer
Would RecommendGreat trimmer for corded. Enough power for 1/4 acre with one complete charge.

Belongs in the Smithsonian
Would RecommendBlack & Decker's entire line of electric string trimmers really is way out in front so far as performance is concerned. I have used two gas, a weed eater and a homelite. This is in no way inferior in strength but never clogs up with weeds, which both gas machines did constantly. I have been surprised to find it can even take down raspberry cane, which I had otherwise used a chainsaw for. It is a tough utilitarian tool which delivers from all angles. I was able to extend the wand to make i...

Works well, would include dual sided bump feed
Would RecommendI purchased this trimmer as my previous gas trimmer was unreliable. For my yard, having a cursed trimmer isn’t too much of a hassle and is worth the savings. My only complaint is the string doesn’t feed with a bump, you have to take the cap off and manually feed it. The string also only comes out of one side of the head. Other than that, the product met my expectations.

Good for a mid-priced electric
Would RecommendBought this because I have a gas trimmmer that doesn't start despite recent replacement parts. I just needed to have a solution for the meantime. This is probably the 4th B & D trimmer I've owned. One lasted only a few months but was replaced within the warranty, so I figured I'd go but one this time for this situation. Works well. The local Lowes didn't have the replacement spools in stock, so I ended up buying twine to refill the spool. Hopefully they will have it in stock at a different time ...

Seriously, everyone?
Would RecommendI've just spent fifteen minutes reading all the whining people could possibly do about 'lousy trimmer this', and 'spool doesn't work that'. My observation is that there are a lot of impatient rookies out there that aren't willing to take the time to LEARN how to properly use the equipment. I have used this gh3000 numerous times to knock down 12"+ high weeds on the .33 acres I live on. I give the unit's sturdiness 5 stars, the concept of the a.f.s. 5 stars, and the function of the a.f.s. 3 stars....
Do not get this unit!!!!!!!!!
Would Not RecommendAuto string feeder does not work at all!!!!!!!!! It's an embarrassment to have this on the shelf!!!!!! Returned it after having at less than 1 hour.. get a unit that has the bump feed that has been around forever and as a tried-and-true design. I'd like to thank the engineer that came up with this for wasting my time. As usual they took a good design and changed into something completely useless. Lowes took it back no questions asked.

Has potential
Would RecommendOn my 3rd season, with this unit. It is powerful enough to go through high Texas grass. I am very happy with it's power, but it EATS string. 15-20 minutes at the most and you have to stop because the spool is gone. That is ridiculous. The AES system is not very good. If I can convert it to a blade system I will, otherwise off to another manufacturer.

Spool Issues
Would Not RecommendThe tool works great when you can keep line on the spool! The power and ease of handling was great, but I spend so much time rewinding line on the spool I cannot get any trimming done!
