Ratings & Reviews for BLACK+DECKER Groom N' Edge 14-in Curved Shaft String Trimmer
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this trimmer. Many praise its lightweight design, powerful cutting performance on thick weeds and grass, and easy switching between trimming and edging modes. However, a substantial portion report severe auto-feed line system failures—the mechanism frequently jams, stops working, or requires manual rewind every few minutes. Several users experienced recurring issues even after exchanging units, suggesting a design flaw. Some note the spool housing melts or loosens over time, making repairs difficult. A few mention excessive line consumption and cord management challenges. Despite these concerns, many appreciate the corded electric design for consistent power and reliability compared to gas models.

Would RecommendThis trimmer is an improvement to previous Black and Decker trimmer. It does a good job like that string cuts itself and that it locks in position when changing to edging position. Very pleased overall. Farm girl

THE WORST PRODUCT I EVER BOUGHT
Would Not RecommendThis is the worst product I ever bought. The feeder line mechanism was poorly designed. The line keeps on feeding so the line keeps on entangling. I wasted my money on this product. Now I have to look for a new edger. Please don't buy this product or you too will be sorry. I don't think I will ever buy a Black and Decker product again after this experience.

Not Easy to Use
Would Not RecommendI previously owned the B&D GrassHog which used .065" line and it worked well. It wore out so I found the GH3000, thinking it would be similar. Requires a 14 gauge extension cord for 100 feet which makes everything much heavier to use. The .080" line rarely lasts for one trim of the yard and refilling the spool is a major pain.Seems that B&D have new engineers designing products which they never use themselves.

Black and Decker corded electric trimmer/edger
Would RecommendThis trimmer is by far the best trimmer I’ve ever purchased! We have a gas trimmer/edger (already had to replace the gas line) and a battery charged trimmer/edger, (which no longer holds a charge)

Excellent trimmer - very good auto-feed
Would RecommendI've had this for two years now and it's worked as advertised. The line feeds automatically with two brands of line that I've bought. Twice I did have to remove and re-orient the line when it broke inside the spool, but that's over a period of quite a bit of trimming. It's much more powerful than my previous corded electric trimmer, which burned out while working in some too-heavy weeds.

Needs a GH710 head and cap
Would Not RecommendI bough this unit and left a rather scathing review on the B&D site. Brand new unit ran through an entire spool of string before I even finished my modest front yard. This unit replaced a GH710 that finally lost its motor. I got smart though, I discovered that the dual string GH710 spool and cap are a perfect fit for this unit. I swapped in and have been using this a couple of weeks and it hasn’t run out of string on me yet. I’m rating it a 3 because of the excessive use of sting and the fa...

Does the job!
Would RecommendI bought mine exactly 4 years and 4 months ago! For my purposes, it worked just great! But it has finally bit the dust and I think I am at fault for this. Occasionally, I have to trim against a chain link fence, and that's where I go through an exorbitant amount of string. But I roll my own, so it's not that much of a big deal. I thought about getting a gas powered one, but for my little yard I can't justify it. Two extension cords and I'm good. I especially love the curved shaft, and I'm 6' tall...

string
Would Not RecommendI bought this at the beginning of spring to use on my very small yard. I couldn't believe it when the string almost immediately ran out. I thought maybe it was because it was on the spool that came with it and it was just not very long. The next spool I bought did the same thing and it was expensive for such a small amount. I'm so frustrated - I'm a single homeowner on a very tight budget and can't afford to get a different trimmer.
