Ratings & Reviews for BLACK+DECKER Groom N' Edge 14-in Curved Shaft String Trimmer
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this trimmer. Many praise its lightweight design, powerful cutting performance on thick weeds and grass, and easy switching between trimming and edging modes. However, a substantial portion report severe auto-feed line system failures—the mechanism frequently jams, stops working, or requires manual rewind every few minutes. Several users experienced recurring issues even after exchanging units, suggesting a design flaw. Some note the spool housing melts or loosens over time, making repairs difficult. A few mention excessive line consumption and cord management challenges. Despite these concerns, many appreciate the corded electric design for consistent power and reliability compared to gas models.

Would Not RecommendI bought your 7.5 amp trimmer for small weeds and grass the mower can't reach. I should have done more research because if knew then what I know now about your autofeed feature I never would have bought the thing. Not only does it force me to buy string on throw away spools at 5 times the price per foot of generic string but the thing seems deliberately designed to use string at a rate far faster than loss would normally occur from regular use. The cheap little blade mounted on the guard to c...

Bad trimmer
Would RecommendThe auto line feed is a joke it works for a short period then start in spooling the complete spool of line. In the past I've owned the bump feeder and they worked well. The engineer needs to rethink this design and then correct the issue.

Great Features!
Would Not RecommendWorked great a few times. Durability score zero. Something under the shield melted during normal use, molten black plastic let shield fall, seemed pretty unsafe. Cannot recommend.

The automatic spool is junk
Would Not RecommendI bought this last year and the automatic spool gets trimmed in even the mildest of weeds. It either jams immediately or spits out bits of wire which is extremely wasteful and ends up costing a lot of money.

Spool line unraveling
Would Not RecommendI bought this trimmer because of the Black and Decker name and I am so frustrated with this trimmer, I am ready to throw it in the garbage. I have gone through 2 full spools of .080 inch diameter line in less that 40 feet of edging my sidewalk. this trimmer is not worth buying unless you want to waste your time getting frustrated by having to rewind the spool every 15 feet. It is totally worthless. Black and Decker has a bomb with this electric trimmer. do not waste your time or money buyin...

Do not BUY
Would Not RecommendEverything that these people are saying negative about this trimmer is TRUE please read all reviews The line just spins out we’ve tried it every way possible and it will not stay in less than 10 minutes to do a job that should take 10 minutes you spent more time trying to rewind it and add more than you do mowing the The line just spins out we’ve tried it every way possible and it will not stay in less than 5 to 7 minutes to do a job that should take 10 minutes!!!! you spend more time trying ...

Spool design is terrible.
Would Not RecommendI’ve tried and tried to get the string spook to work properly but no way. I have to stop every 20 seconds and spend 2 minutes disassembling the spool, pulling out strong, putting it back together. I used a shovel and it was faster. What a waste of money.

Practically Useless
Would Not RecommendUses 3-4 spools of line for my small yard. Constantly re-feeding the line through the hole or putting in new line. My neighbors must think I’m nuts! Maybe I’m doing something wrong! Anyway I have struggled with it the past two summers rather than trying to box it up, mail it back, and see what happens.

Great price, weight but line feed is horrible
Would Not RecommendBought one year ago for our tiny 5,000 sq ft yard. Electric cord holder sometimes drops cord, but I've since perfected getting it to stay in place. Lightweight makes it easy to maneuver, but getting a comfortable height is tricky at 6'3". Cuts well until line is depleted, which too often occurs after 20' of trimming. No matter pre-loaded spools, or winding my own it's rare to have it last very long before it just spins down to nothing. If the spool mechanism worked half decently, I'd recom...

Not worth buying
Would Not RecommendI used this today for the first time. What a piece of garbage!! I had a GH1100 for over 25 years, which finally gave out and quit working. This trash weed eater replaced the GH1100. One string?? You would need at least two strings on this to even start to cut grass.

Light weight but don NOT buy it
Would Not RecommendIt is very time consuming and frustrating to rewind the spool every 30 feet that you cut with it! DO NOT BUY IT!

excellent product when all the parts work.
Would RecommendI am still waiting for live chat to order a shroud for a GH3000 trimmer.

Takes time to get a technique for a straight edge
Would RecommendI have used It about 4 times now. I am still getting used to it. Sometimes I have to pause and wait fir the string cutter to extend. It might just be that I am not used to it. It seems you have to develop a technique for getting a straight line on my lawn edge. While I have not yet developed the technique, it seems to be getting better. It he’s promise. I did get a couple of spare spools. I have not had to replace the original yet..

Just What I Needed
Would RecommendHave owned numerous Grass Hoggs in the past, but decided to try a different model this year. The 7.5 Amp Trimmer has great power and the curved shaft makes it more comfortable to use. Edging goes quickly with the wheel feature. Best of all is the easy clip used to change the head position between trimmer and edger. Other reviews have mentioned how quickly the trimmer uses line, but after 3 weeks I am still using the original spool. I've had no problem with overheating nor with line breaking...

Garbage
Would Not RecommendLine does not feed. Purchased new spools of line and I still have to open the head and manually feed the line every couple minutes. Steer clear, don't wasted your money.

A piece of junk
Would Not Recommend30 seconds of trimming followed by 5 minutes of winding more line onto the spool. A full spool lasts less than a minute. Yes, I used the correct lines as stated in the manual...... I wish there was a rating less than 1 star

Good Product for Money, Replacement Parts Poor
Would Not RecommendThis is my third unit, which is to say I get my useful life out of them with heavy use (about 2 years), then the motors burn out. The product performs well for the money; however, the replacement parts are poorly designed and the materials are poor, but such is the way with cheap Chinese cr*p.
