What Customers Are Saying
The Woods Mini Lamppost Photocell has received mixed reviews. Some customers found it to be compact, easy to install, and functioning as expected to turn lights on and off. However, many reported issues with the product, including it failing within a short period, not turning on or off properly, and being overly or not sensitive enough to light changes. The quality and design also seem to have changed over time, with the newer versions being less reliable than the older models.

Would RecommendEasy to convert outdoor light to dusk to dawn. Simple install, works great!
Photo cell
Would RecommendWorks flawlessly. Lights on at dusk off at light. Perfect every day.
Compact unit, works as advertised so far
Would RecommendI have a Zenith brand motion sensor exterior light that my wife wanted on all night. Instead of manually activating it each evening, I added this Woods Pro 59414 Dusk-to-Dawn Light Control which fit nicely inside the J-box. I used an SPST switch between the output (red wire) of this control and the output of the motion sensor (red wire powering the load) so I could easily switch between "motion-activated" and "all night" modes. To the nay-sayers, I will agree that an SPDT switch would have be...
Don't Waste You're Money
Would Not RecommendAlthough convenient for their small size, these devices do not last 12 mos. I have purchased four of these over the last two years and everyone has stopped working right at 9-12 mos. I like the small concept but would suggest trying to find one from a different manufacturer.
Used to replace dusk-dawn sendors in house lights that have failed. Small enough tofit inside existing lamp housing without issues. This is second circuit. Wired first one to switch three lights
This works well I’m pleased with it easy to instal
Would RecommendEveryone needs one of them no higher price mosh ion detecting
died less than a year
Sealed outside with caulk in porch light housing. It will turn on light upon switch but will not sense darkness after it turned off.
Not reliable!
Would Not RecommendI installed 4 of these photocells into 4 separate outdoor gooseneck lamps which are attached to the house and garage. One worked 2 days. One worked for a week. And the jury is still out on the other 2. At this point they are still working but I'm not hopeful. One of the photocells was no good when it was brand new. Tested it when light never worked and the cell was bad from the factory. I will be switching garage lights to one large exterior photocell to run both which you wire as a separ...
Great photocell
Would RecommendWe have a number of light sensitive outdoor fixtures at our church and a number of the sensors fail. Most of the light fixtures have photocells that have about a 1/2" diameter round sensor, while some of our smaller fixtures have the smaller diameter (about 3/8") sensors. This photocell has the smaller diameter sensor so it fit perfectly into our sconce light fixtures.
It fit
Would RecommendFirst time I used this item as I needed to replace a circuit board control light. Fit in old fixture with out any modification. Great item to know about.
Just what I needed for my light. Plenty in stock.
I am so glad Lowe’s is around. Needed a photo cell not just any photo cell but a small one to go into a coach light. This work great. Thank you Lowes.
Works great
Would RecommendInstalled on an outside light. I put a bead of silicon around the lamp where it touches the house to hopefully keep out all rain. Easy to connect. Black on unit to incoming black power wire, all whites together and red to the light fixture. I used outdoor wire nuts that have a waterproof silicon gel in them to help with any water or corrosion issues that might come up.
Weather issues
Would Not RecommendI bought this Woods Photocell to install on my outdoor lamp post for safety. However, it seems that it can’t stand cold days. On days when it is warm and sunny it works fine, but when it gets below freezing it will not turn on. On the package it says it can go below freezing but it serms that thus product just doesn’t live up to that.
