Cuts like a beast, but it'll blister your arm

Ok, first the good, from a power stand point, I'd put it up against any higher end brand. Starts up quick and has tons of power. I use .095 Ugly Line brand and can cut through really thick stuff with ease. The leaking gas cap is only an issue if you're not careful screwing it back on. I bought this trimmer because I have a Troybilt spring starting lawnmower that has served me well for over 10 years, I think the spring starting was very ingenious. Once I put the trimmer together and filled it with gas, I tried to start it. And as advertised, it started quickly and easily. However, that was the last good thing about the trimmer. What a great weed wackoff!

Bought this because of the price and all the positive reviews. Took it home, put it together pretty quick, a little heavy but balanced. It started right up. I broke it in by running it and letting it cool, several times. The next day, I did all my weed wacking and noticed that it ran strong but ran rough. Rough enough to rattle my arms. The carb adjustment from factory not set for max power. Maybe because of altitude of manufacturing location different from where I live. Needed to purchase "special" tool to adjust. I feel that this is not right. Plastic lever for carb start up broke almost immediately. Cannot find replacement (still researching, and having trouble removing what was left on stem, so I'm leaving it attached until can find replacement), but still operating without. Running much better after carb adjustment.

Great buy

Light, easy to use and, easy to start. The only issue i have is no one in town carries the eccessories for it.

Doesn't hold up!

I've had this trimmer for a year. As usual they kind of start off ok, but lose their salt. I have experienced this trimmer overheats after 15m of use. It shuts down at a moments notice and I have to wait for it to cool off before operating again. Countless times I had to re-string due to string flying out from the spindle. This is a good product in the short time since the purchase, but make sure you move the adjustable hand grip up to where your elbow is not hovering above the motor housing as it gets very hot. Also the parts bag was one screw short for the housing around the spinner, but they have sent me one. I need to buy the carry strap, as I get bad tremors after use, and it is loud so use ear protection as well. Couldn't be THAT simple!

I bought this thing a year ago. I hate yard work. I really do. But what I hate worse, is when the equipment goes bad on me. This has plenty of power, a good cutting diameter, and if you use the premix gas, she starts right up. You gotta love that! Well, I finally ran out of line in the spool, and could NOT figure out how to get that spool apart to put fresh line in! I finally broke down and looked at the directions.... What??? You don't take the spool apart? Line up the arrows, feed the line...

Poorly built but does the job

I purchased this unit with the intention of being able to use the jump start feature. It worked really well for the first 3 times I used the unit. The 4th time it failed. It would still start by pulling the rope, but that is not what I expected it to do It has to have the throttle feathered to keep it from stalling, might be an adjustment to the mixture screws, but shouldn't it run right out of the box? Great house tool

This is a great tool. The weed eater is great. It starts real easy. The attachments are great. I saved close to $500 on buying this tool and its attachments. The pole saw is no stihl now but it will do it what you need in an urban setting. If you are clearing serious brush then spend the money on the industrial stuff. If not, then save yourself the money and buy this tool.

Bought this when the one store in Los Angeles that showed the four cycle version wouldn't sell me one. (Some phantom recall that Troy Bilt hasn't heard of). Don't buy Troy Built

How appropriate that I was asked to do a review of a product that just today I had to return. This Troy-Bilt weed eater failed on its maiden voyage and didn't even complete my 1/5 acre yard. The engine stopped running suddenly for no apparent reason and the pull cord cam mechanism would not engage. So essentially the weed eater started one time and one time only and then broke. Worst quality experience I've ever had with a piece of lawn equipment.

Hate it!

Reloading the string in head is extremely hard. Very poor design.

Burned Twice

I've made the mistake of getting this weedeater twice, the first time I returned it because the starting mechanism failed....the rope simply came out and never recoiled. So, I thought what the heck have I got to lose, take it back to Lowe's and complain since I had only used the thing a couple of times, but was outside of the normal return window. Poor experience with this trimmer...

I bought this unit back in October for use at my new house. Have about an 1/8 of an acre that is not flat, hills and the like. The trimmer was easy to assemble out of the box. I did like the idea of the spool options, both the feeder spool and the non-feed spool. That is where the good experience ends. I read all the reviews and most of the people that knew a few things about 2 cycle engines had no issues with this unit. I owned a Ryobi 1079r for over 15 years. Yes I did a lot of repairs to it.
