What Customers Are Saying
The log splitter is praised for its powerful performance, able to effortlessly split large, tough logs up to 30 inches in diameter. The vertical splitting feature is appreciated as a back-saver. Reviewers report the splitter is efficient, able to quickly process several cords of wood, including hard woods like oak and cottonwood. The hydraulics are described as smooth and powerful. While a few minor issues were noted, the overall sentiment is that the log splitter is an excellent, highly capable machine that makes wood splitting easy, especially for those with physical limitations or large wood-burning needs.

A good splitter for the money!
Would RecommendBought this log splitter after looking at several models and designs at other retail chains. Found this one to be the best from everything I was comparing and wanting in a splitter. Larger splitting head, descent size hydraulic shaft, log catch/supports, can slit vertical or horizontal, large wheels, 25+ tons and price. The other splitter I was looking at was the Ariens sold at the other "orange" retail store, but it was a lot more money. Lowes also sells a brand called "Champion", but I persona...
Purchased as a Christmas Gift for Dad
Would RecommendThanks to you all for the wonderful xmas gift. Vivian helped me cut down a mean looking tree Sunday afternoon. It was up near the turnaround at the top of our road. (CR227). Got it cut up, loaded and backed down to the bottom of the house, where the Log Splitter is setting. I unloaded a few of the logs and split enough to keep the fire place going for a few days. We were both pooped. The tree was not only mean looking, It was the hardest thing to split I have ever run into. It grew in a spiral a...
27 Ton Logsplitter
Would RecommendI recently purchased this splitter and here is my review. After taking it home and putting it in the garage, the next day I found that it had a small leak on the hydraulic system. Upon inspection, I had to pull the suction side hose from the hydraulic pump, clean and re-install, and tighten the clamp to fix. Other than this minor issue, I have ran four tanks of fuel through it and no issues, other than I was having so much fun I did not want to quit splitting. The engine starts and runs flawless...
So Far So Good
Would RecommendI've been splitting wood by hand most all of my adult life, but the last few years I have been using a friends's log splitter. When it was time to purchase my own, I researched a number of splitters online. This Troy Bilt 27 ton splitter was priced right and was a better value than some of the others I looked at. There has been nothing I have put on this thing that it will not split! The biggest pieces have been close to 3 feet across and not a problem with any of it. I have split 2 cords of wood...
2 months and it's in the shop???
Would Not RecommendBought this splitter in Oct 2011, used it approx 6 times and it developed a hydraulic leak in the Hyd pump. Brought it back to Lowes on 6 Dec and I still don't have it back. Very frustrating, I was told that the manufacturer has a back log on pumps, does this mean that this is a common problem?
Great Unit.....especially with Military Discount
Would RecommendThanks Lowes....for a great product and for a small thank you reward to Military Veteran's. I'm getting older now and after 2 wars the work is getting a little harder to do so this unit really is making life alot more tolerable. Handles some big wood.....I think so far my biggest piece was a 36" diameter and a full height 29" stroke....it barely fit. Do most of my work in the verticle position so I don't have to lift these big boys anymore. It grunted for a few seconds....but then plowed right t...
it is ok
Would Recommendhad to replace hydralic fluid do to low level and warrantee void warning of mixing fluid additional 75 dollars a bolt was cross threaded and was product specific unable to match at lowes or hardware store... other than that it works like a champ
Hard Working Machine!
Would RecommendI have had this splitter for a couple weeks now and have split about two cords of wood. I have never owned a splitter before and was impressed with the ease of use. I did find a couple of items that I would change like a stouter leg and pin for holding the tongue up. The pin needs to also be spring loaded to make the movement of the leg quicker. It's a little difficult to hold the machine up and also fiddle with the keeper in the pin. It is a little flimsey and allows the unit to rock back and f...
Great splitter for the money
Would RecommendThis unit does it's job well. I have put it through it's paces and it came through with flying colors. It was even able to split 35" diameter pieces.
Right place, right time, nice present
Would RecommendI was in Lowes the other day to pick up a drill bit and ended up towing this Troy Built splitter home. Like others here, I have been reading numerous reviews on splitters but had yet to pull the trigger on purchasing one. My wife was looking at them and said “we need one of these” , I agreed and said I did not remember reading reviews on this model. She pulled out her IPad and we sat down on the splitters while I looked at about 40 or so reviews and decided with my military discount, it was a gr...
Should have done the years ago
Would RecommendI,m 58 years old and was still splitting wood by hand. This log splitter has made a world of differance. It started on the first pull. What use to take me about 3 full weekends to split, now only takes about six hours. The only thing that would make it better is if it came with someone to put the logs on it.
Great log splitter
Would RecommendThis thing splits anything. I looked a lot of different brands. This by far out works the other at a very reasonable price.
starts real easy but
Would Recommendstarts real easy but in the 2 yrs i have owned i have gone thru 2 pump side couplings sheared them off and 2 spiders tonight when i sheared off the pump side coupling i also notice that the engine shaft side was kind of worn so they are not really very heavy duty will probably replace all 3 pump, engine couplings and spider gear actually easy to change just wish they would last longer but probably better than breaking a shaft
wonderful machine, but arrrived with NO manual
Would RecommendIt arrived timely, however, it arrived with no manual. Can you imagine a company not bothering to bring an owners manual? We ended up going to the store to get one off the other machines that did. What a pain! However, the machine works great!
Great log splitter
Would RecommendI had borrowed my brother's splitter to see if I wanted one. It was not even close to the Troy Bilt in quality. The Troy Bilt splitter starts first pull every time--if I remember to turn on the switch! I am well satisfied .
Work Horse :-)
Would RecommendJust picked this up today, towed it home and fired it up second pull. Naturally pulled out the biggest knotted logs we could find and this thing was impressive. It laughed at anything we had to throw at it and kept on splitting. Before long we had two cords of wood pilled up. Only thing I would like it to have the control lever a little further off the ground but otherwise can't wait to split some more wood! Will report back in a few months after we split a few more cords and see how things hold...
