The piece has a near-finished and rough-finished side. However, even the near-finished side has blemishes, so be very careful with preparing it for final finish. Some of the blemishes and mars are a result of shipping and rough handling, but some are also poor quality control. Be sure to use wood filler on all visible holes and cracks on the finished side and sand thoroughly before applying stain and varnish. Top Quality Finish.

Highly recommended. We did not stain it. Looks like liquid gold artwork when finished with 3 coats of Minwax Hellman spar urethane. Could not be happier. We used two 6 foot sections for our outdoor kitchen countertop.

covered by adhesive

when I removed the shrink wrap, I found the corner protectors and paperwork were taped to the wood surface (both sides) with a very strong adhesive. It took several hours to remove the adhesive, resurface and finish the wood.

Awesome Island top

We bought this as an Island top and it works perfectly. My one comment would be to teach the salespeople how to treat it. We went looking for the wood conditioner in the same department that we found the butcher block and they did not know where to find the conditioner. We then went to cleaning products hoping to find it there among the furniture polishes and cleaners, but with no luck. We finely found the wood conditioner in the Paine department. Great product for the price

I bought the counter top to use with height adjustable stand up desk base, It's about 70 LBS and perfect fit for my need. I searched with many vendors either price is too high or the quality is too low... but this product is perfect blend of both.

Good quality, clean butcher block

Perfect for a desk top. Purchased it, came quickly, in good shape. Used mineral oil, waited 48 hours, and it was ready to go. Looks beautiful, a great statement to the office.

Warped and chips in top

This is a major disappointment. First one had to be returned because shipping damage. Second one has chips in wood in multiple spots and top is not flat. Has warping. Took tons of sanding to try to fix warp and chips don’t look good. Should have returned it but I had already cut. So may fault for not checking. Basically it’s really bad for a top. Photo is just one example of the chips in top.

I used a transparent Special Walnut stain, with a grey-wash over it for a rustic look. Sealedit with orange oil/bees wax conditioner. Water beads on it, does not sink in. Very happy. Had a month now, with no dings, scratches, or warping. Perfect !

Nice budget friendly top

We purchased the butcher block top for our island. This thing is huge and heavy, just what we were looking for. One side is smooth planed, the other is planed, but with the knots showing, which we loved. It is not stained or finished, so you can pick what colors or finishes you want. You would have to fill the holes on the knotty side.

Amazing Island

Bought That’s because it was in stock and the perfect size for my island. It comes with a raw finish, I suggest doing a light sanding before you put the wood butcher block conditioner on. I first wanted to stain it and I tried a piece in the center that was going to be flipped over and I’m glad I went with a natural because after the oil was put on it came out the most amazing beautiful color. I highly recommdend this!

Great Counter Top. This one had blemishes though.

Purchased 2 butcher blocks from lowes and had them delivered with a load of cabinets. Installed first one about a month ago, looked great! I was very pleased. Opened this one today and noticed a poorly done patch on the edge. This block will be a island counter top, so all edges are visible. Since this is a very heavy chunk of wood, I did not want to take it back to Lowes and get another. I had to cut off about 1/2" and then hit it with a router. Good budget saving option

I picked up the top for a client to put in a laundry room that we had updated. We needed the extra depth as we had done custom cabinetry to elevate and in close the washer and dryer. We applied a Clear sealer and it looks great.

Quality Piece

The grains showed up very nicely under stain, no preburn needed. Just a finishing conditioner to polish it off for food grade use.

MAde this into a kitchen island. Easy cut. No splinters. Oiled up very nicely and in 6 months has held up well and gotten many compliments.

Beautiful Countertop for my Laundry Room!!

This is a beautiful solid butcher block counter. It was packaged well and was in beautiful condition that met my high standards. I enjoyed finishing the whole piece with the recommended mineral oil shown in their video. The video really helped me decide on how to finish this piece. You will need a good saw with a sharp blade to cut this as it is solid birch. I sanded the top with 300 grit and wiped down the top with a damp cloth before adding the finish.

Stains easily, durable

Stained with one coat of Minwax Dark Walnut. Used 4 coats of Waterlox to make food safe and waterproof. Love the outcome.
