Great Replacement Spool
Would RecommendI bought this to replace a worn out spool on my string trimmer. The original spool failed, and repair parts were no longer available. This spool is designed as a universal replacement for multiple brands of trimmers, and it comes with detailed instructions and an assortment of mounting hardware in order to address the various manufacturers' mounting requirements for their brand of trimmer. I like the ease of loading string into the trimmer. The trimmer holds 18 feet of .095" line. You line up th...

String trimmer head
Would RecommendThis head worked well to replace the standard head. Easy to load string. I was able to use existing string wihout buying replaceable blades that would be like buying razors for the rest of my life. No one loves trimming and everyone hates replacing the the pastic string but this helps

Easy to install and load, but poor performance
Would Not RecommendI'm generally not impressed by anything resembling a gimmick, but I needed a new head, and this was the most straightforward one I could find at Lowe's or at the orange store. Loaded it up no problem, and used a half spool trimming around the yard. Once I got into anything heavier than turfgrass, like tall grass, vines, etc, it started having problems. Using 0.095" line, I got a lot of welding, so it stopped advancing, or only advanced on one side. This resulted in me having to open it up, remov...
Difficult to install and poorly constructed
Would Not RecommendThe box says it will fit 99% of trimmers. I was trying to install the head on an old Stihl FS46 and hardware was not included in the box that would make this work. After a trip to the hardware store to purchase an 8mm nut, I was able to get it installed and running. Once installed, it worked very well for a while. However, during the third string change, one of the two plastic side tabs that secure the string housing to the body of the trimmer head snapped off rendering it useless. I only go...
I see improvements
Would RecommendI can't really say i recommend the second version until I've used it, but I would the first. I see they've improved it. I have the first edition. It has no alignment markers and the line twist when loading, but I still like it more than traditional line heads. I've had mine for about 2 years now, I've used and beat the heck out of it doing light commercial. Its wearing down now, but still works. When it dies, I'll have to try the second version and give a review.
So far so good
Would RecommendI have only used it twice so far it work as it should we shall see after several months of use

Good replacement.
Would RecommendThis was an easy to install replacement when my original equipment fell apart. It's a little more difficult to turn when reloading the string than the original, so I would deduct a half star... Really 4.5 out of 5.

Friction fit
Would RecommendI have tried many of the self winding heads and this is the only one that I have found that will not actually suck the trimmer line back in because it has a friction fit preventing that.

Not reloadable
Would Not RecommendWorked the first time it was installed and the string lasted for a while. Went to reload it and I can't, thus it is now useless. This is not a very good product when it needs to be reloaded.
A great idea on paper, if only it actually worked!
Would Not RecommendI bought this trimmer head to replace the worn out head on my RedMax weed trimmer. This Shakespeare Auto Winder looked like a great option to save me time loading fresh line. It mounted up to my straight shaft RedMax just fine using the included #2 adapter. However, it would NOT reel in the line. I'm using .095 line, which is fine according to the instructions but the knob on the bottom of the unit would not turn by hand and wind the line in. I double checked everything and tried again...no d...
Will buy another as a back up
Would RecommendThe first low price option I've found that actually works. Holds up on my very powerful electric GREENWORKS trimmer cutting St. Augustine. As easy to load as my old RYOBI was. Maybe I should not be such a cheapskate and get professional grade equipment but I think I've found a great bargain combination. Most of the trimmers on sale are not practical at all until you get Shakespeare Autowinder II.
Replacement head for the Troy-Bilt TB22EC
Would RecommendThis is a BUY BUY BUY!!! Unbelievable results and this solved the poor design of the bump/feed knob and the manual winding of string etc... This makes my weed trimmer a new and improved machine. This is what Troy-Bilt should have on their units.
