There are probably few tools more irritating than string trimmers. I gave up on B and D electric trimmers after having bought three over the years and having had trouble with the feed with all of them. So I bought a Kobalt. This was a bigger mistake than the B/D's. It is severely underpowered. It will not easily clear tall or heavy weeds. Even with regular trimming, I often have to make two or three passes in order to clear out one area. Kobalt 40-Volt String Trimmer

Bought to match the 19" 40-Volt lawn mower as I can use the same battery & charger for both. Have only used the trimmer/edger once so far but seems to work well. I am completely satisfied with the purchase and the Kobalt products.

Hope you don't need parts

I've had this trimmer for almost 2 seasons. Performance wise I couldn't be happier, cuts grass well and I get 30-40min out of each battery. This won't cut really thick grass or brush but for normal trimming it works great. The reason for my 2 star rating is because of the lack replacement parts. My spool cover broke, which isn't a big deal (things happen), but the part can only be ordered from one supplier and is back ordered with an unknown ship date. Surprising power!

First time I used it on my quarter acre lawn, then cut an area in the back near the woods for about 15 minutes, it still had plenty of juice left. I put it on the charger, charged fully in 10 minutes, telling me it had plenty left. It advertises it will cut a half acre, I believe it to be true. Great Trimmer, trim up to 2 acres

First off, let me save you money; It is NOT worth buying the more expensive 40v Kobalt over this model. There are no differences other than this has a 2.0mah battery. I cannot imagine the more expensive model lasting much longer, considering it is 2.5mah. While this model specs says only use .065", you definitely can use .080 string, in fact I recommend using .080. Good edger

We bought this edger about 3 years ago to trim around our RV site. Bought 3 replacement spool pieces, pre-strung, just in case. Here it is 3 years later, we just ran out of string. That would not have happened if we didn't help a friend mow her WAY overgrown yard a couple of weeks ago. I have nothing bad to say about this edger. Just about perfect

I bought this trimmer in early 2016 and used it all last year. I trim ~400' of lawn edge and ~50' of light weeds/brush every 8-10 days during the growing season. This trimmer has plenty of power for this type of use and the battery goes 3+ trimmings between charges with no loss of power. The two line spools that came with it lasted through last season and into this one. Fair trimmer

This was not the trimmer I wanted but I had to settle for an in store credit and this was the only one that didn't look like it would fall apart after the first user. I have a small lot and I use this timer for light trimming and edging. I have used it for 45 minutes and only run the battery down half way and it will recharge in less than 30 minutes. Trimmer-YES, Blower-NO

Bought both the trimmer & after much thought, the blower. After reading a lot of the reviews, decided I wasn't going to fight the gas/oil mix/starting issues/tune up every spring thing again. Looked at several at competing stores & still came back to the Cobalt.It was on sale at $99 and came with an extra battery. Only used it once yesterday but I must say i'm impressed. Only used it one time so far,so good. I like it.

Don't think battery goes for 1.75 miles that it says in manual. But recharges quickly. Line feed is very nice. Once again so far so good.

1 year review

I have really loved this trimmer. It worked wonderfully right out of the box and got better as the battery ran through a few cycles. It's light weight enough for me to be able to do my whole yard without having to stop for a break. The string is easy to replace--all in all it was a great trimmer. Then I let my 15 year old use it this year. The first time he used it, he must have been letting the bottom sit on the ground and it completely eroded the casing away. Get a STIHL.

4/20/17, After 2yrs the thing went bad. The motor catches lots of dirt @ won't stay running, it's probably shot, I can't even clean it out. I'm getting a STIHL gas job, what I should have done 1st.

Said it goes 1.75miles I have 1200foot ditch line could not due on one battrry sucks for the money

Worth every penny

Definitely my favorite trimmer. It's easy, no gas to have to deal with and no pull starting. It's easy, convenient, and powerful. Worth every penny.

Works well when the string actually feeds

The string feeding system on this trimmer is horrible, and the strength/quality of the string is more suited for trimming something less than the thickness of grass. I bought this trimmer last summer, and I've had nothing but headaches with the string and string feeding system. I'm sick of it, and I'm buying a new gas trimmer this summer. I had hoped that a battery trimmer would be sufficient for my yard, but it's not. They need to redesign the string feeder portion of this product.
