Poor quality hole saws, very difficult to complete

The hole saws in this kit kept coming apart from the bit used interchangeably. It was practically impossible to finish the job, and I caused extensive damage to the door in the process. I could have bought two hole saws and used the template that came with the lock with much less effort and time that I spent with this kit. It was a waste of time and money.

Cheap flexible plastic and cheap hole saws

The guide is made from a cheap flexible plastic that moves around too easily and broke on me when working on the second door. One trick that made it work a little better before it broke was to add a clamp just above and another clamp just below the device to keep it from moving around so much. It uses the screw holes to help align and hold the device steady. If anything moves while you are drilling holes for the locks, the screws will strip. This thing causes more problems than it solves. Don't waste your money

Material is cheap, flimsy plastic. Even when screwed into place it had some wiggle. I honestly would have had a cleaner, more professional finish had I just made the cuts free-hand. Went in the trash after the first use. I have other Irwin products that I genuinely like but this was a big swing and miss.

Total frustration

You will need a vice to change from on bore saw to another. So add that to your tool assemblage. Sorry I purchased this kit. Ladies do NOT purchase this for home improvement - made for gorilla muscles, no finesse.

When using the hinge jig i find my 3 1/2 inch hinge will not drop in place it seems the 3 1/2 jig is about a 1/8 inch to short, Depth seems a bit shallow as well .

Wood Door Lock Install Jig Dissappointing

Today was the first day i used this Wood Door Lock Installation Kit. I see Irvin as a trust worthy brand in the mid market of tools. Last week, I bought a set of Irwin Forstner bits and they perform well. However, this door install jig has some issues. The whole saw drill bits worked well. Good and bad features.

I like the clamp for the door. Didn't like the router plate. The drill bit which is causing me headaches is taking forever to cut the door and it's burning the wood not cutting it. About to ditch it, sorry

Very poor design- won't work on composite doors

I needed to replace 10 doors in our house and lumberyard sold me this kit. Big hole saw had nearly 1/8" runnout; had to remove it from mandrel to clean two or three times per door. Small hole saw also clogged frequently. Plastic template broke on 4th door. Headed out to find a good template made by someone else.

Needs Door jam template/jig!!

I bought this to install a deadbolt lock on a solid wood door. The door jig worked like it should and the bits & hole saws seemed to work fine but I also didn't try to cut the entire hole in one pass either. I only did the one door so I can't speak to how long they stay sharp but it was fine for me. On the down side, there's no easy way or jig to align the strike plate on the door jam itself. Bolt plate template

I need a replacement bolt plate template, as the screw hole pins have broken off. Suggestion - based on using it with the router bit, maybe something stronger than plastic would be more suitable for this template.

Don't buy at least for metal doors

Product claims to drill through metal doors, Product performed and drilled through, but product broke during installation as as the flimsy plastic circling the larger hole broke away from the product. I disposed of the product and resorted to the using the paper template. First door lock came out okay with product, but product broke during second install (flew off the door) Once one side was drilled the alignment of the hole when drill through the other side with paper template was off. I couldn't have completed the project without it

It is the perfect tool for someone that is not familiar with drilling holes in doors. I had a 1 1/2" hole that needed to be enlarged to a 2 1/8" hole. The difficult thing was figuring out how to place something in the existing opening that the bit could grab on to. I drilled a 1 1/2" hole from a piece of wood and used the wood and inserted it in the 1 1/2" opening and secured it with the expanding foam stuff. IRWIN 8-Piece Bi-Metal Hole Saw Kit

When I finished with the 2 1/8" Hole Saw I found out that the I " hole saw threads were too small to fit the mandrel, so now I'm at a standstill until I get the correct part.

Quality is POOR

The Short Version: Waste of Money. For an easier time and professional results- Spend a little more for a Better kit. Use a router and Jig to cut mortises for Bolt Plate and Hinges if needed. 1. The mandrel screws into the top of the hole saw to secure it. It SHOULD have prongs to fit into the top of the Hole Saw so you don't over tighten it or it doesn't over tighten when drilling/sawing the hole for the knob. Installing door locks

The alignment was good, the routing was poor due to the plastic guide and cheap bit. The screw holes were off between the template for the latch and the actual latch holes. The paper guide was difficult to line up. The concept was excellent, just poor quality.

Spend the extra $10 on the Dewalt

Garbage. I used this thing to attempt to make my deadbolt holes larger. This was so that I could accommodate the new size in my old exterior doors. The bit jumped around the whole time as the flimsy template would not stay in place. You may be able to get away with using this on a new interior or wood exterior door so that the bit can grab and hold the hole saw in place, because the template definitely won't.

The fittings would not enter change. Our friend loaned us one that worked.

Expect to buy extra parts

Concept is great, functionality not so much. Started off following the directions as I was installing a deadbolt in a door. Directions easy enough to follow, and everything went well right up to the point of swapping out the larger hole saw for the smaller. I had to put the mandrel (bit) in a vice and get a wrench to loosen it, and after that the 1" saw wouldn't thread on to the mandrel. Made a second trip to Lowes to get a separate 1" saw to finish the job.
