What Customers Are Saying
The Grip-Rite deck screws have a mixed quality. Many users praise the screws' durability, corrosion resistance, and self-tapping design that makes them easy to drive. The Torx/star drive head is also appreciated as it is less prone to stripping compared to Phillips heads. However, a significant number of customers report issues with the updated thread design, stating that the screws strip out easily, especially when screwing parallel to the wood grain. Users also find the screws do not grip or hold the wood well, and the threads tend to clog with wood fibers. Some customers recommend exploring alternative brands or reverting to the previous Grip-Rite screw design.

Would RecommendThese are the best screws, hope Lowes will always carry them.
Difficult to start!
Would RecommendThese screws do NOT start into the wood very well. We essentially had to start these screws as if they were nails - we used a hammer to drive them into the board far enough that they would then start into the wood with our drivers.
A++ Screws
Would RecommendThese are great deck screws. They were used for a big project. Every screw was perfect. Not one problem with bending or stripping the heads. I would definitely buy these screws again.
Excellent product
Would RecommendExcellent product. I use these screws for decks and practically everything else that I build.
Coated deck screw
Would RecommendExcellent screw head grip with torx bit and smooth coating allows for easy penetration into treated wood products. Would be nice if they included a few more bits in the 25lb size since even a 5lb box gets a bit too.

Very good fastener
Would RecommendWe were very pleased with this fastener in resurfacing a very large deck with 2x6 pressure-treated deck boards. Screw gripped immediately without a pilot hole. (We used our own driver bits so cannot comment on the one which came in the box.)
Use Stainless
I installed a deck with these screws ten years ago in upstate NY. Now the heads are popping up because the screws have rotted out. Lifetime warranty? Maybe if you live in the south or leave them in the box. I recommend using stainless for deck hardware were salt is used on roads. It costs more and you will strip/break more screws on install because stainless is a softer metal. But your screws really would last the lifetime of your deck
Fantastic!
Would RecommendThese are way better than Philips head screws. I bought a box of Philips and these star head. I used both on the same project whole building a book case. The Philips stripped very easily and these babies held up great. I don't remember if there was a price difference, but if there is, these are totally worth it for having the comfort of mind knowing you don't have to worry about stripping the head.
One bit for 25-lb box of screws? Really?
Would Not RecommendOverall the screws were OK - of the 25-lbs we had 27 screws that were not useable, they looked to be mal-formed and the head did not work. Also they only provided one bit for all 25-lbs of screws, and that they put in the box before the screws so it was all the way at the bottom. EXREAMLY difficult to get to without dumping out most all the screws. Bottom line: if you have your own bits and are not counting on the ONE provided, great! ...and know that a certain percentage of the screws will ...
Everything we purchased at Lowes is what we expected it to be. Works out great. Now the employees at your Mobile, Belt line and I65, are not helpful. We had 3 carts, our first trip, full. Me, my husband, and 10 year old son had to push carts with no help. Very heavy. After checkout, cashier was excellent, we asked for help loading our purchase, No one ever come to help. We have been there another time or two since then and still no help. This makes me not want to shop Lowes any longer.
Worth the extra money
Would RecommendYou will pay more, but it is worth the extra money. The Star head will not strip as easy as some of the other screw heads.

Perfection, at a cost!
Would RecommendJust finished building my 2nd deck using these screws, and I will NEVER go back to Phillips head screws. In constructing my 8'X32' deck, never once did I have a slip, or a broken screw from over-torquing. But be aware: they are about 1/3 more expensive than comparable Phillips heads. I think they are well worth that extra expense.
Best Deck Screws Ever!!!
Would RecommendI've used thousands of deck screws in fences, decks, and other home repair/build projects. I've always used Phillips head since I was familiar with them and had a few #2 and #3 bits. WOW was I crazy for trying to stay with the older type screws. These star type screws have a self tapping tip which make them go in easy and I built a new fence and deck (over 2000 screws) and only used 1 bit instead of about 10 bits like before. And not one head stripped out either. A++++
Always Keep on Hand
Would RecommendI always keep this screw on hand. Drives well, stays tight in weather, and corrosion resistance. Change your WORN T-25 bits for better performance. Using a drill extension with sliding screw cover to help start screws is very handy dandy with these long screws.
The best for the money
Would RecommendI have been a cabinetmaker for 23 years and as a result learned a many lessons on mechanical fixtures .screws come in many variation from slotted,Phillips, square, hex, torx (aka star)and Allen heads .used all of them at one point or another. By far the torx head screws work amazing. First the torx driver seats inside the head extremely well because it is a flat bottom inside the torx drive doesn't lift out of the socket. Second when driving the screws in even at an angle the torx driver doesn't po...
Fencing project
Would RecommendWe have been using these screws to improve a horse fence on our farm. These self tapping screws have made quick work of attatching oak faceboards to the posts.

Does the job.
Would RecommendI just put down a new deck and have used over 60 pounds of the 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2 inch Deck Screws. After several months of weather (no salt water exposure), most of them are still fine. However, there are multiple spots where the screw heads have rusted and are staining the new boards (thumb nail sized blackish spots around the bad screws).
OMG, never will buy another screw besides this one
Would RecommendThis is the best screw design since sliced bread!!!! It made the job so easy and I did not once have to remove a screw or spun one. Anyone out there building wooden structures, BUY THIS ONE!!! You will not regret it.
