What Customers Are Saying
The Grip-Rite deck screws have a mixed quality. Many users praise the screws' durability, corrosion resistance, and self-tapping design that makes them easy to drive. The Torx/star drive head is also appreciated as it is less prone to stripping compared to Phillips heads. However, a significant number of customers report issues with the updated thread design, stating that the screws strip out easily, especially when screwing parallel to the wood grain. Users also find the screws do not grip or hold the wood well, and the threads tend to clog with wood fibers. Some customers recommend exploring alternative brands or reverting to the previous Grip-Rite screw design.

Would Not RecommendI have to agree with most of the other reviews here: these screws are terrible. I've just built two decks using these new "improved design" Grip-Rite screws and they strip out probably 25-30% of the time. The problem is that the threads actually collect the wood fibers as they drill into the lumber, which clogs them up and causes them to spin. Obviously this means they aren't gripping (ironic product name, guys!) and therefore making a poor connection. Also, it seems worse in lumber that is ...

Greatest screwin I ever did!
Would RecommendThey drive in easy. Never broke any heads off. Never stripped any out. Used 400 with no problems.

New Design is Terrible
Would Not RecommendI have used these screws for years and loved them. The new design is absolute crap. Can't get them to sink in far enough to get the head of the screw flush with the board. I will be looking for a new product.
New design (from about May 2019) is terrible!
Would Not RecommendThe previous design was a #9 shaft with deep threads. The "new, improved" design is a #10 shaft but there is some weird filler in the screw threads that clog the threads and don't allow them to bite. The screws strip out easily and don't hold. Additionally, the slot that is supposed to go down to the very tip of the screw and create a needle point is not located correctly. The end result is a screw that is hard to start, requires more battery killing torque that increases operator fatigue and ...
Bad screws
Would Not RecommendThese screws have a poorly designed thread, as soon as the head contacts the wood the screw strips.
Grip-Rite 3-in screws are fantastic!
Would RecommendThese are the best screws I've used that will satisfy any long lasting home project. I have yet to break one and they hold the best. I used these for construction of a privacy fence.

Great screws torx bit drive preferred
Would RecommendThese grip the wood great and the torx bit doesn’t require you to push nearly as hard on the head of the screw as a Phillips. Great for big jobs decks fences etc.

Threads are not deep enough.
Would Not RecommendThese screws have design that bores out the wood as it screws in. On top of that, the threads are too shallow to grip. It basically turns the screw into a drill bit and strips the hole.
My Go-To
Would RecommendThese are the only screws I use! No rusting, easy drive, and rugged!
