What Customers Are Saying
The Grip-Rite deck screws have a mixed quality. Many users praise the screws' durability, corrosion resistance, and self-tapping design that makes them easy to drive. The Torx/star drive head is also appreciated as it is less prone to stripping compared to Phillips heads. However, a significant number of customers report issues with the updated thread design, stating that the screws strip out easily, especially when screwing parallel to the wood grain. Users also find the screws do not grip or hold the wood well, and the threads tend to clog with wood fibers. Some customers recommend exploring alternative brands or reverting to the previous Grip-Rite screw design.

Would RecommendThey are good for the most part, as always there is some wobble between the bit and the screw.

Big Box Store's Screws
Would Not RecommendAgreed with other reviews, thread "improvement" was a mistake. From my research, you'll find the good old screws at other hardware stores. Different product number, just look on the containers. Seems like GripRite manufactures these new screws specifically for this store. Interestingly enough, there's a mixture of the new and old design on the store shelves right now... And check out the 25# buckets online, they show both options. But you'll be given whichever style they can find, if they can ev...
Only one Drive bit in box
Would Not RecommendOnly one Drive bit for such a large box of fasteners
Strip out easily
Would Not RecommendThis is the second bucket of these screws I have picked up from Lowe's. The first one was your typical screw but thus box has some weird crosshatch design and is hard to counter sink without stripping out. As my wood drys I worry about the screws holding.
A year later and 1 out of 10 broke.
Would Not RecommendReally disappointed, saw a couple heads popping up and decided to tighten them only to find they broke half way down. Wouldn't think you could sell a product that failed so often. That's halfway done, decided to write this and let my drill cool off.
NEW DESIGN SUCKS
I have used grip-rite screws for years. It used to be my "go to" screw. The new thread design has taken a top notch screw and turned it into junk. The screws do not hold and will strip out especially if trying to screw parallel to the wood grain. If you want a screw that will bite and hold, grip-rite is not it.
New deck screw design.
Would Not RecommendBought many cases of these screws over the years. Started building new barn and the new thread design is crap. They strip out want hold. Hope company goes back to old design.
