Would RecommendEasy to set up, Instructions are very clear, simple starting and operation. Started on first pull and has done so ever since. Could have a little quieter exhaust tone but is not too bad. It saved two freezers during recent hurricane.

great features
Would RecommendBought it for outage in case of hurricane. One of three in a row, that never affected us. But with an impending move to the mountains, it will be used.

WOW! Single pull and immediate start-up
Would RecommendExtremely easy to assemble. Adding oil and gas was quick and easy. Owner's Manual is spot on from Assembly through startup to maintenance. Extremely satisfied with the buying experience and the obvious quality of this product. The wife is especially satisfied and truly at ease with how the product runs and works with the necessary appliances in our home. We feel much more prepared for any natural disaster in our Florida home.

5500RS Portable Generator

Great Generator
Would RecommendThe setup was simple with easy to follow instructions. Once setup was complete, it fired right up. When the power went out during a hurricane the generator had no problems running the refrigerator and some other small items. It is a great generator for the money and does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Heavy Duty
Would RecommendThis thing is built like a tank! I am impressed by the size of the frame and the quality of the build. As advertised it is quite easy to start and run. The only thing that I would change would be to add a fuel cutoff so the carb could be run dry for storage. Not a deal breaker though.

Very well made and easy to maintain
Would RecommendThis unit is replacing a 14 year old gen. I was shocked to find that most of the replacement parts for the other unit are unavailable. Generac has been around for quit a while and have a great reputation for service and dependability. I got it home, took about 30 minutes to get it ready. It fired up first pull and ran for about an hour under load for testing. No problems working great.

Solid generator. So far so good.
Would RecommendRight out of the box theRS5500 is impressive. Fit and finish is impeccable. The unit is heavy for sure but it's not a toy so I expected that. After putting the oil in and adding gas the power dial made starting quite simple. What a great idea to put the choke, run and gas shutoff in one convenient dial. Once the generator was warmed up a little I plugged in some light loads and the tone of the engine never changed. I plan to test it further by plugging in a big refrigerator/freezer to see ho...

Failed at 104 hours
Would Not RecommendI got this generator two years ago. Never used it before Hurricane Irma except to run it every so often as recommended in the manual. Used it for Irma, when it failed at 104 hours run time. No spark - faulty coil. Fortunately I was able to borrow a generator from a friend who's power had been restored. Our power was out for three more days. I'm disappointed that this generator was not dependable.
Unit starts easy and holds the load
Would RecommendThis RS5500 unit runs great and easy start. Unit keeps up with the demand you put on it. Never stop or bogged down with power demand. Would recommend this to everyone.

Worked Great
Would RecommendI purchased this a week before Irma hit. Pulled it out of the box, put the wheels and handle on, added oil and fuel and it started on the 3rd pull. During Irma I ran it for 43 hours straight. It powered a chest freezer, 2 refrigerators, several lamps continuously. During the night I unplugged the chest freezer and plugged in a 10K BTU portable A/C. The generator ran flawlessly. As most portables, it is noisy, but since it was outside, it was not a big issue, especially since it allowed us ...
Good value.
Would RecommendThe Generator was very easy to assemble and prepare for operation. It started quickly and easily and ran smooth and surprisingly quiet. The included cable is a big boost in the value.

Powerful generator with plenty of capacity and ease of use
Would RecommendBought this generator prior to Hurricane Irma hitting South Florida. When the power went out I started the generator with no problems and ease of use. Powered my refrigerator, lights, TV, Microwave, and fans with no problem. Easy hookup with ample sockets available. Ran and extra line over to my neighbor to give them lights and a fan. Used a moderate amount of fuel for the load that was applied to generator. Very pleased with its operation. Thank you Generac this was a great purchase that saved ...

Awesome Generator
Would RecommendMy mother is disabled and with a storm coming towards Florida, I purchased the 5500 for her. When the power went out, I was able to run the well for water as well as the refrigerator, freezer, 110 window a/c, lights and outlets in the master bed room, lvrm, and kitchen continuously for 5 days.It burned about 6 gallons of gas every 12 hours. Not bad for the load on it.
Noisy, two fuel filters and no shut off
I bought this unit based on a hurricane emergency, their reputation and Generac being American made...I think.. Manual says a valve adjustment may be in order after some use. Not a big deal so long as you have some automotive skills. Unit has two inline fuel filters...One is hidden just below the fuel tank, the other is behind the air filter and both require more than normal work to replace. Bad design. Unit is lots noisier than my Troy Bilt Also has no shut off fuel valve to run carb dry for ...
Hurricane Irma savior
Would RecommendGot this generator after the hurricane hit. It took my wife and using flashlights in the dark about 30 minutes to assemble. We put the oil in and gassed it up with one pull of the cord we were up and running. It powered our refrigerator, multiple fans, lights and powered our devices. It only used about 5 gallons of gas overnight this thing would run most of the day before we gassed it up. We always filled it up before we went to bed just to be safe but this thing was a life saver.

Great Generator
Would RecommendI bought this generator last September hoping I would never have to use it. Well along came Irma and it ran flawlessly for 6 straight days. I had also installed a manual transfer box so 1 cord to plug in and I had 6 hot circuits which gave me the essentials. I was using about 2,500 Watts so I plugged in my neighbors fridge and kept them going for 6 days as well. Power came on today and my Generac will get a well deserved cleaning and fluid change in the next few days! Generac is a quality gener...
