Will not start when needed!

Had the unit for a couple years, and try to start it every couple weeks. After a while it started to give me trouble starting. I figured it was the fuel, so I purchased the TruFuel from Lowes (was told it would eliminate the stale fuel issues). Started right up with the TruFuel. Then about 4 weeks later I tried to start it, and it refused to start! Had to give up and put it away. Hope the power does not go out, because I cannot depend on this generator.

It's apparent that before generac let's the generators leave they test them out, which is a good thing. After testing them i am sure they then have to drain the oil and gas before shipping them. Now the only issue i had with this generator was after I refilled the oil i went to put gas in it (keep in mind i am doing this in the dark) afterppouring about 2 gallons of gas I realized something didn't seem right. Ran like a champ during Hurricane Matthew cleanup

We got this generator a couple of days before Hurricane Matthew hit our area near Hilton Head Island, SC. After the storm, I set it up outside of our garage door alongside the house, gassed it up, and pulled the cord – and it started right up! I plugged in the big 220v power cord it came with, ran it through the garage and into the laundry room, then started plugging extension cords into the 4 outlets that had two separate 110v circuits. • One line went to the big refrigerator in the kitchen....

Good for the money

Only have about 14 hours on it so far, but it appears well built. Cranks easily and good output. Gas consumption is relatively low. Unit is loud, but most of this type are.

Must have

I've never owned my own generator. I bought this one in a pinch because of Hurricane Matthew after we lost power. It was the only ones Lowes had left. I got it home and took it out of the box and assembled it in about 20 minutes. I turned my main breaker off in the house. Hurricane Proof

Bought it three weeks before Hurricane Matthew. Set it up when I got home and it cranked on one pull. Had a transfer switch installed and it pulled everything in the house except for AC, Water Heater, Range and Dryer. Had no problem running my fridge, freezer, microwave, lights, TV, electric griddle, toaster oven and even more in a 4 bed house. Poor Quality

I purchased my Generac Generator in February 2016 from the Lowes in Fort Myers, Florida. I was impressed with the initial set up and what appeared to be initial quality. The unit ran great but I noticed that I was using a lot of oil. I contacted Generac and was given the name of their local Authorized Warranty Repair center and delivered the unit to them. excellent generator

Bought this on Tuesday because we were going to be hit by hurricane Matthew, fortunately only had to use it for a few hours. Assembly and preparation was easy, just followed the instructions. Test ran it Tuesday, started on the first pull tested it under load with some power tools worked great. The power went out Friday so I hooked it up, started again on the first pull, handled all the loads just fine. I could tell when the refrigerator would startup by the generator adjusting for it. Can't go wrong with this unit

Hurricane Matt left us w/o power, and it looks like it's going to be that way for a couple days at least. I unboxed it, assembled the few parts needed and had my lights on in less than 20 minutes. So now while my neighbors are stressed and doing without...I'm watching a movie, having a cold one and enjoying the night. No worries about food spoiling, or a freaked out wife! Generac pretty much invented these things for the general public...and I appreciate it.

Generac 5500

Bought this with the possibility of the pending Hurricane Matthew. We had wanted to but one for some time but felt this was the best time. It was on sale for 10% off and I saved an additional 10% with my military ID. Put the wheel kit on and filled the oil and the gas and it started on the 3rd pull. Ran smooth and perfect. Good quality generator with some irks

I have a champion 4000 peak watt genny that was left on my land when we bought it. Used it for about 4 years and then it kicked off and stopped working in the early morning in early august while it was in the 90s temps. I took a long time reviewing different makes of Generators and after reading lots of reviews I went with the Generac Rapid Start 5500. With living in an area of the country where we get both Tropical storms and Ice storms we are and have had several power failures. So for comfort I bought this generator on sale. Nice piece of equipment

Bought mine about 3 weeks ago now and have about 10 hours of run time. I'm using it mostly to power a deep well pump for intermittent use watering plants and washing digging and concrete tools. The item is very sturdily built. Assembly consists of putting on the wheels and handle. Mine started on the first half of the first pull! Generac Rapid Start 5500

From what I read and how fast it started, it must be a Honda cloan engine. This generator runs very smooth and loaded with power. Used only twice, very happy with this unit. This is my third generator over the past 35 years. It is by far the quietist, my push mower makes more noise. For those who complain about the loud operating noise, must not own a push lawn mower! The power cord that comes with it is high quality and handy to have. I would recommend buying this unit.

Started up right away

We purchased this unit directly off the shelf as there was a widespread electric outage in the area and this was the only generac left. We originally were looking for the 8000 watt unit. Awesome through and through

The most reliable generator I've ever had. Starts right away with one turn of a dial and a simple pull of the rope. I literally put fuel in this bad boy and pulled the pull start and it exploded to life. It has more than enough power for what i needed and it just keeps on running until i simply turn off the dial. I recommend this to everyone in need of some serious power.
