What Customers Are Saying
Customers are sharply divided on this trimmer. Many praise its lightweight design, ease of assembly, and dual trimming-edging functionality, finding it comfortable and ideal for small yards. However, nearly as many report severe battery issues—lasting only 10 to 20 minutes with 3.75-hour recharge times—forcing multiple battery purchases. Mechanical failures plague the product, with reviewers citing broken line feed systems, jammed spools, and failures after minimal use. Some note lack of power against thick grass and front-heavy balance. Despite positives, battery performance and durability concerns significantly undermine satisfaction.

Would Not RecommendAbsolutely maddening experience attempting to reload the trimmer. The cartoon-like pictures in the owner's manual are of zero help. The feeding mechanism is not reliable ... or I'm a complete idiot. I'm willing to concede that operator error might be part of the problem ... but I've watched how-to reload videos on YouTube ... I'm not doing any different than what they recommend ... If you have some free time and feel like you missed out on your share of day-to-day first world frustration, then...

Line feeds continuously
Would Not RecommendI purchased the model cmcst915 this spring since I am older and loved the idea of a lighter weight trimmer. It worked for 4 or 5 times and now it feeds too much line even after changing to a new spool and I can’t find anything on how to repair it. I am so disappointed in the performance of this craftsman product.

trimmer line feed
I was just looking how to get the line to feed out and saw its supposed to be automatic? Just got mine used it 2 times and have to stop pull the cover off bottom and manually stick the line out so is mine just broke from the start or how do I get the auto feed to start working? I literally just bought this thing and it's annoying toanuallt feed the string when I'm not supposed to have to!?

Buy a goat
Would Not RecommendI have had nothing but problems since the first use. String constantly breaks and won’t feed because it breaks inside the spool assembly. Can’t even trim 10 feet before it breaks.
Great product!
Would RecommendOverall, a great product! The only exception being the size of the battery that came with it. Which is to be expected. With the size of my yard, I definitely needed extra batteries to finish the job.

Very disappointed with the CMCST900 weed whip.
Would Not RecommendVery disappointed with the CMCST900 weed whip. The product broke within 10 uses, it is probably 10 months old. The cam for the auto feeder is made out of cheap plastic, so now the head continuously feeds string. This design is awful. I should have stuck with blackndecker, that lasted 4 years.

Auto feed broken
Would Not RecommendI almost exclusively use craftsman tools, which makes it all the more disappointing that this product broke within ~6 uses. The cam for the auto feeder is made out of cheap plastic and cracked, so the head continuously feeds now. If i return for another one the same thing will happen since the design is awful. I don’t understand how this is acceptable
